Hostplus was established in 1988 as the national industry superannuation fund for hospitality, tourism, recreation and sport.

Hostplus is proud of our industry fund heritage which, at its core, means we are committed to offering a competitive fee structure, not paying commissions to financial planners and running the fund solely to benefit our members. It is this ‘member-first’ philosophy that means more money stays in our members’ accounts, ultimately leading to a better retirement outcome.

Today, Hostplus is one of Australia’s largest superannuation funds with nearly one million members, around 100,000 participating employers and over $18 billion funds under management as at March 2016.

Balanced option investment returns.

Our Hostplus Balanced investment option return of 5.00% for the financial year ending 30 June 2016, placed Hostplus in the top five of all Balanced investment options surveyed in the SuperRatings Fund Crediting Rate Survey. Results in this survey for the year to 30 June 2015 show the Balanced option recording top quartile returns over 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 years (Source: SuperRatings Fund Crediting Rate Survey, FY 2014-15).

Fees.

When you join Hostplus there are:

· No buy/sell spreads (underlying and sometimes hidden asset transactions that incur a cost).

· No switching fees (from one Hostplus investment option to another).

· No exit fees (no penalty when you withdraw or leave).

All you’ll pay is:

· A low $1.50 per week ($78 p.a.) administration fee.

· Insurance premiums at varying rates depending on your selected level of cover.

· An Indirect Cost Ratio (ICR) ranging between 0.00% to 3.83%, depending on your chosen investment option^. In the 2015-16 financial year, the default Balanced option was 1.20%.

This includes our ChoicePlus option which allows members to invest directly in the top ASX 300 stocks, Exchange

Traded Funds and Term Deposits. Additionally we offer our members access to the IFM Investors Australian Infrastructure Fund which invests directly in nation building projects. We have also introduced Hostplus Life – a lifecycle investment option that automatically changes your investment choice in line with your stage of life, as determined by your age and retirement horizon.

Providing security for our members.

Hostplus insurance cover is designed to protect members when they need it most. We offer the following key benefits as part of our offering:

· Unlike some competitors, we pay the full benefit value at the time of the event – no percentage based pay-outs or reduction in benefits.

· We provide default insurance cover to all members, regardless of their occupation.

· No suicide exclusions or pre-existing condition exclusions for members who receive default cover.

· Our insurance cover is account based so members remain covered for as long as their account is active, even if their employer contributions stop.

· Our members are covered 24/7 whether they’re in Australia or traveling overseas.

· Unlike some insurance providers, Hostplus does not profit from declining claims. So there are no hidden clauses or fine print.

· We offer a new professional occupation scale that allows senior management staff to upgrade their level of cover at no extra cost.

· Our Claims Review Committee ensures that members are protected and that claims are thoroughly investigated.

Low cost banking.

To provide our members access to fairer banking, this year we introduced the Hostplus Debit MasterCard® linked to the ME Bank Everyday Transaction Account (ETA), with no account-keeping fees and no hidden costs. This allowed us to provide members with a range of special offers. Previously promoted offers include, $50 bonus, 5% cash back on PayPass transactions for six months, and more recently, free access to any ATM in Australia with the first ETA, for as long as members hold the account.

In-house contact centre.

While many of our competitors outsource call centres, we operate this important service in-house. Hostplus members can always be assured they’re speaking directly to a Hostplus employee.

Health insurance at special rates.

Hostplus is always looking for ways to offer members a better deal, especially when it comes to essentials like health insurance. That is why we have chosen HCF as a preferred health fund for our members. HCF has tailored an exclusive range of corporate health insurance products that are not available to the general public, in order to meet the needs and budgets of Hostplus members, whatever their lifestage. HCF is Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund, so members, not shareholders, get more.

Free sporting and tourism tickets.

As the industry super fund for tourism and sport, Hostplus is a proud partner of various sporting and tourism networks, including teams within the NRL, A League, AFL and other hospitality events like the internationally acclaimed Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. 10 year member fee freeze.

At times when many super funds in our sector are announcing fee increases, Hostplus has been able to leverage its growth and scale to keep our weekly member fee at a low $1.50 per week for over 10 years.
