OVENIA Hostelling International SloveniaHostelling International Slovenia (HI Slovenia) is the only national representative of Slovenia in the International Youth Hostel Federation (Hostelling International – HI). HI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization active in about 90 countries in the world. The organization works closely together with UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WTO (World Tourism Organization) and other important international organization – also it was proclaimed the sixth largest organization that offers overnighting. With 4 million members it is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and is the only network of youth hostels with about 4.000 objects for spending the night, 1.5 million beds and 30-40 overnight stays annually.

HI has high standards for youth hostels, based on the treatment of the guests, security, cleanliness and privacy. But it is not its only role. Since it was established in 1932 it encourages young people for better intercultural understanding through informal education and peace, global friendship and environmentalism. The international organization, with a strong support of its national members, it offers interaction among youth of various nationalities and cultures, exchange of experience, getting to know their peers and after all themselves.

For this the organization has international programs for youth, above all the ones with lesser chances, through which we spread the mission of Hostelling International, which remained the same since 1932:

To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

HI Slovenia, with more than 40 hostels around Slovenia, ensures safe, budget friendly and quality boarding for all types of groups. This includes the educational field trips with various themes (history, art or language courses) as well as extracurricular activities for schools, students, sporting and other groups – or simply friends who want a joint active holiday.

At the heart of the 35 kilometre long Upper Savinja valley, which is surrounded by a wreath of 2.500 meter high mountains and distinguished by its unspoiled nature lies Hostel Menina. Is a very nice hostel situated by the alpine river Savinja. It is very suitable for the groups, families; people who want to spend peaceful holidays, nature lovers and all those who want to spend their time in various activities like: trekking, hiking, kayaking, cannoning, paragliding, mountain biking, enjoying good wine & food, swimming in lake or river. We are situated in a centre of Slovenia which is easy to reach other parts of Slovenia. We have also adventure park on location and a lake to swim and a big terrace with restaurant. We have 25 houses to rent, so we can accept 100 people in total. The resort Menina with sport centre & beautiful region offers you an active holidays and perfect place to feel local people, heritage and culinary. As we all know, words cannot describe the real experience so we are looking forward to host you and we will do our best to make your holidays here unforgettable.


The valley is 35 km long named after the Savinja valley, which rises in the Logarska valley in the Alps in a form of waterfall named Rinka, which is one of the highest waterfalls in Slovenia. In the town Nazarje the river Savinja is joined by the river Dreta so actually there are two rivers in the valley. This is also reason that the valley is wide and open and offers long and sunny days. A ring of mountains-parts of the Alps, which surround the valley rise from 1000 to 2500 m of altitude. This offers the possibility of one or more days of trekking tours. Directly from the Hostel Menina you can see or also walk to the nice ski centre Golte (1500m) which is also accessible by cable car. Close there is a botanic garden called Moziski gaj.

We are serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in our restaurant with the outside terrace. We serve mainly local dish and we are trying that the ingredients are from local farmers.

Rafting on river SavinjaEnjoy our best activity and in the same time observe our pure natural environment. Rafting is a great adrenalin experience. We have all the equipment and the trained guides, which will make sure you, have a great run on our river Savinja.


ParaglidingShare the sky with the birds, and take a look to our valley from a different perspective and at the same time enjoy the breath taking, adrenalin feelings. We offer you a beginner’s course and a paraglide tandem flight with the instructor.

FlyingMan has always longed to fly and share the sky with birds. That is why we offer you flying with, sport airplane or jumping off a plane with parachute.

HikingsDiscovering the beauties of our mountains on foot, can be really enchanting experience. The plans of tours are announced weekly easy tours: Matkov škaf, Raduha, Travnik.Advanced tours: Korošica, Olševa, Smrekovec.

CanyoiningCanyoining for more adrenalin! Our valley is surrounded by high mountain peaks. On its way from the peaks to the riverbed water created narrow gorges in the mountain slopes. These gorges and canyons reflect the face of the primordial nature, and are therefore very interesting, crisscrossed by narrow passageways, with waterfalls and pools. Together we can visit of the wild gorges and we guarantee that if will remain a beautiful memory for you.
