Welcome to the BSME U15 Games hosted by Cranleigh Abu Dhabi

Husain ShafeiBSME Students Coordinator

Michael Wilson Principal, Cranleigh Abu Dhabi

On behalf of the BSME team, I extend a warm welcome to you all! To our competitors, teachers, parents and friends traveling from all parts of the region: Welcome to the BSME U15 Games 2018.

This event would not have not be a success without the extensive dedication of Laura Rigon and her team at Cran-leigh Abu Dhabi. We would like to extend our thanks to Cranleigh Abu Dhabi team for not only hosting our sporting tournaments but also hosting our BSME Dance Invitation-al. Thank you for giving our students the opportunities to

perform both on the courts, pitches and on stage.

Congratulations to our students on the privilege of representing your school at the BSME U15 Games. Prepare yourself to be challenged, excited and inspired as we embark on three days of intense competition. After months of training with your coaches’ and parents’ support, this is the opportunity for us to witness history in the making. Past records may be broken and new ones set in place. We wish all schools partaking in this year’s Games the best of luck and enjoy every moment.

Keep an eye on BSME social media platforms (@BSMEorg) to follow the action, and share your experience by tagging us.

Let the Games begin!

Congratulations to you all. Having been selected to represent your school at one of the region’s most prestigious inter-school sporting events, you are about to embark on a fantastic weekend of competition and camaraderie, the memories of which will stay with you for years to come.

Many thanks to the BSME for the tremendous focus it places on competitions like this one. The BSME works hard to “…foster teamwork and determination, celebrate diversity within the region, and provide every student the opportunity to be the best they can be.” These kind of goals resonate deeply with us and we

are delighted to have been able to work alongside the BSME team to bring the 2018 U15 Games alive.

So, a very warm welcome to Saadiyat Island and in particular, to Cranleigh Abu Dhabi. It is our first time hosting these Games and we are excited to be able to offer our own campus, as well as that of our close neighbour, NYU Abu Dhabi, for the event. Between us, we are able to provide the kind of world class facili-ties that should inspire you to perform at your absolute best.

Sport is an integral part of a great education. It is no coincidence that there are so many sporting analogies used in the professional workplace; the games we learn as children help to prepare us for life as effective adults.

Competitive sport, in particular, tests us in all kinds of ways, both physically and psychologically. Going into these Games, I hope your training schedule has helped you gain good levels of fitness and that your squad work has built a bond that will ensure effective and rewarding teamwork.

I would like to leave you with one message. Whether you emerge as winners or not, remember that your only limit is the one you set yourself. So aim high and be proud of how you conduct yourself both on and off the pitch.

Good luck everyone!

The Hosts: Cranleigh Abu Dhabi | UAE

Cranleigh Abu Dhabi was opened in September 2014, and is the sister school to the prestigious Cranleigh School in Surrey, UK, which was founded in 1865.

The two schools work together closely, sharing the same family-based community ethos and an educational phi-losophy that focuses on the whole child. This means that alongside academic excellence, there is an emphasis on ensuring students are active beyond the usual timetable, challenging themselves to move out of their comfort zone and achieve beyond their expectations. Whether that is on the sports field or through a performance platform, the intention is that every child finds a niche where he or she can stretch, succeed and shine.

Based in Abu Dhabi’s Cultural District on Saadiyat Island just next to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the school offers a British international curriculum and has over 1,300 pupils from more than 60 nationalities, spanning FS1 to Sixth Form. Cranleigh Abu Dhabi was shortlisted for International School of the Year 2018 in the Tes Independent Schools Awards, voted Top School in Abu Dhabi in SchoolsCom-pared.com’s UAE Top Schools Awards 2017 (runner up in the UAE) and also named New British International School of the Year 2017 by the BIS Awards.

Al Yasmina Academy is part of the Aldar Acade-mies network, which consists of seven schools in Abu Dhabi. We have a long association with the BSME competitions, have hosted the BSME

swimming for the last three years and are looking forward to hosting again this year. In recent years we have also regularly competed in the BSME netball competitions. All students, parents and teachers are extremely excited about the opportunity to participate again.

BIS Abu Dhabi is one of the truly outstanding inter-national schools of the Middle East.

Since the British International School Abu Dhabi opened in 2009, we have made steady progress towards establishing ourselves as the school of choice for over 1800 students in Abu Dhabi and the second largest school in Nord Anglia Education’s family of 56 international schools.

Those that already know our school will be aware that this success has been achieved through the persistence and hard work of all our teachers, students and parents. The attitude and environment of this school is one which always strives to achieve excellence and never settles for anything less. It is exactly this attitude that we aim to instil in all our students with everything that they do, especially when representing ‘Team Falcon’ in the BSME games.

The British School Muscat has expanded dramati-cally over the past few years and now has over 1200 pupils covering the ages of 3 up to 18. We have almost 50 nationalities represented within our school with

the biggest percentage being British at around 40%

BSM has been a keen entrant in the BSME Games since the Primary Games were first held in 2003. We have participated in the U13 BSME Games since 2012 hosting the event three times. We have participated in every U15 Games since its con-ception and we are delighted that are involved again this year Every year the BSME Games is a tremendous event to be involved in and we are sure that this year’s event will build on previous events and take the experience for the students to even higher levels. We are bringing 22 students and four teachers but our goal is as much for the students to have an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives, meeting students from our schools and forming new friendships as it is to worry too much about the winning of the event again—although that would be nice. Like all teams, our students have trained hard to ensure they can give their best at these games. I genuinely wish the very best for all the schools taking part over the weekend. Good luck to all participating schools from the teachers and students at BSM

The establishment of Kuwait English School was, in 1978, the dream of the present School Chairman, Mr. Mohamed Jassim Al Saddah, at that time serving as Kuwait’s Ambassador to Spain and the current Founder/Director,

Mrs. Rhoda Elizabeth Muhmood. Both shared a passion for educa-tion. A modest villa in which to start the School (September 1979) was found until in 1984, with a population of some 1500 students of all ages, a purpose-built school was opened. Since that time there have been innumerable developments to ever improve the facilities and the quality of education.

In 1991 a specialised learning department “The Green Unit” was opened to cater for students with learning disabilities. This depart-ment has become an icon for recognising and nurturing talent, however modest or concealed, and providing the students with useful life skills along with confidence.

In 1997 a specialised Sixth Form area, designated for students of Years 12 & 13 was opened. This section “The Millennium Centre” was inaugurated by Dr. Rasha Al Sabah who, at that time was Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Higher Education.

The school currently provides education for approximately 2,500 students from a myriad of cultural backgrounds. Sport and PE are a central part of everyday life with students having many opportuni-ties to participate in both competitive and non-competitive events. Kuwait English School is a member of the Kuwait Foreign Schools Athletic Conference (KFSAC) for juniors and International Schools Athletic Conference in Kuwait (ISACK) for the seniors. The school enjoys great success in both domestic and international sports competitions.
