    I t can thus be seen that deploying IT canhelp the medical profession in improvingits quality of service and thusautomatically increasing the preparednessand defensiveness. Of course, it is of vitalimportance that the software must havethe right type of modularity and opennessso that it is manageable, maintainable andupgradable. T he hardware should also bereliable, available and have the necessary

    performance capacity.
