Orion Health HIS provides rich integration within the front-office clinical and back-office administrative modules, giving clinicians and administrators access to information within and across different departments.

Providing standards based integration points to Patient Management Systems, Radiology Information Systems/Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (RIS/PACS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR), HIS supports best-of-breed strategy with industry-leading options.

Electronic Medical RecordThe heart of Orion Health HIS is the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). This central repository for all medically related documentation consolidates the medical history of each patient into a single medical record. From any device in the healthcare system, the EMR provides the necessary tools for physicians to complete all procedures and administrative tasks associated with a patient visit. With a few mouse clicks, clinicians can quickly and simultaneously view medical examinations, diagnoses, treatment histories, test results, and medication histories in their own defined configurations.

Patient Administration SystemManaging the entire patient care workflow has never been easier. From the registration of patient information in the Master Patient Index (MPI), to bed tracking and discharge, the Orion Health HIS Registration, Admission, Discharge, Transfer (RADT) system manages the necessary administrative procedures for both inpatient and outpatient visits, including allocating doctors, applying policies, managing waiting lists, and assigning beds. Orion Health HIS also includes comprehensive patient medical record tracking and medical coding.

KEY BENEFITS

End-to-End Medication ManagementIn addition to automating the routine workflow of a hospital pharmacy, Orion Health HIS provides tools for enterprise-wide medication administration. Bar coded patients, employees, and prescriptions provide increased support for the five rights of medication administration. The Medication Administration Schedule (MAS) and Medication Administration Record (MAR) are two important elements of the medication management system that help increase patient safety by decreasing the risk of patients receiving the wrong medication.

Orders can be made via traditional scanned paper or via electronic prescribing. Drug interaction checking, drug monographs, and explicit dosage instructions are available to provide effective decision support and reduce risk. A patient medication profile provides a current snapshot of the patient prescriptions and historical information.

Diagnostic Order EntryOrion Health HIS includes a fully integrated Computerised Provider Order Entry (CPOE) that allows clinicians to route orders electronically. Order details and status updates are then available in the patient record for all other users to view. Laboratory results and diagnostic images are electronically reported and linked to the original patient order. They can be viewed and sorted in a number of ways depending on the clinician’s preference, improving clinical outcomes and increasing efficiency.

Emergency Department ManagementAn efficient and accurate Emergency Department (ED) management system is critical to hospital operations. Orion Health HIS provides quick registration for ED patients and triage features for prioritising patients based on their need for medical care. The ED management solution includes an electronic whiteboard with advanced functionality and flexibility to ensure rapid clinical adoption. With real-time status and patient tracking, the ED management system provides clinicians with a single view of the relevant information required for their work in the ED.

RIS/PACSOrion Health RIS/PACS is seamlessly combined yet maintains flexibility for radiologists to use a single software application to manipulate and study images and access the entire patient

medical record. The workstation interface is optimised for radiologist workflow, including support for predefined templates, an intuitive report editor, and voice-recognition and dictation capabilities. Multi-resource appointment scheduling, image distribution, and patient billing are also included. Orion Health RIS/PACS is available as a stand-alone departmental radiology solution or as a module of Orion Health HIS.

Surgical ManagementWith increasing demand for elective surgeries and pressure to deliver results at lower costs, hospital operating rooms require a quality surgical management system. The Orion Health HIS Surgical Management module delivers maximum efficiency of operating room resources, staff, and materials through scheduling, utilisation, and peri-operative management tools. Preference cards and resource tracking features provide added efficiencies allowing clinicians to focus on their patients with less time spent on administrative tasks.

Revenue Cycle ManagementThe flexible Revenue Cycle Management component of Orion Health HIS includes the integration of charging, cashier, claims management, and a centralised policy set-up tool. By integrating all real-time inpatient and outpatient charges generated during a patient visit, administration staff have quick access to current patient demographic and billing information 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across systems. The Patient Finance system makes it easy to generate bills to an unlimited number of payers according to the policies assigned to the patient’s visit.

Financial ManagementOrion Health HIS provides general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset, and cash management solutions enabling a current, consolidated, and fast view of the financial status of a healthcare organisation at any point in time. Payments received from customers in Patient Finance and Accounts Receivable, and payments made to vendors in the Accounts Payable system, can be reconciled with bank statements and credit card statements in Cash Management and then easily posted to the General Ledger system to reflect their effect on accounts and financial reports.

Nursing WorkspaceIn an inpatient environment nurses are a critical part of intensive, acute and sub-acute care settings. Orion Health HIS provides a flexible and configurable platform to support nursing related activities within the hospital setting including patient observations, notifications and subscriptions, work lists, medication administration, documentation, ordering, and bed management.

Laboratory Information SystemA Laboratory Information System (LIS) is fully integrated with the CPOE module including complete specimen and order tracking, flagging and notification for critical results, cumulative test display within EMR, and specimen and result auditing. Automated integration software for lab analysers allows for rapid specimen turnaround and report generation leading to improved clinical outcomes and increased efficiency.

Business Intelligence & AnalyticsOrion Health HIS includes a powerful set of business intelligence tools, specifically designed for healthcare organisations. As well as providing data warehousing for enterprise data, Orion Health HIS creates a data platform from which Business Intelligence (BI) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) can be easily applied. Orion Health HIS empowers users to answer their own questions, enabling real-time performance improvement.

Workflow ToolsOrion Health HIS includes several features to enhance user workflow. Several search options exist to locate a patient record. Inpatient, outpatient and demographic search all allow filtering by multiple attributes including identifier (MRN, NHI), patient name, clinician, unit and facility. Once the search has been run, the clinician has the ability to save the search conditions for future use and access the full patient record from a single mouse click.

Notifications features allow a user to subscribe to specified events and to be notified when one of these events occur. Such events may include the availability of laboratory results or the admission of a patient.

Orion Health HIS also includes a PBX Call Manager. Since a hospital can have numerous PABX in various departments, the PBX Call Manager provides an interface to connect to each PABX that can have differing call formats, and can still charge the call data to the same patient database.
