During the first weeks of school our Hedrick teams have worked very well together to ensure an awesome school year for your child. Registration, first day of school for 6 th and 7 th graders, first day of school for all students, challenging and fun lessons, sports, activities, open house, carnival night of the vaux swifts, are just a few events to begin our school year! This month, Judge Ravassipour will be speaking with all 7 th grade students in their social studies classes. She is presenting the Rule Outprogram to engage our youth with the local justice system. The Judge will discuss the Benchs perspective on issues of substance abuse, social media and drugs. On October 26 th from 6-8 pm, Judge Ravassipour and a panel consisting of Sheriff Nate Sickler, a prosecutor, a public defender and counselor will be holding a community forum here at Hedrick in the multipurpose room. The Judge will work with parents to promote the power of choice for their students, to choose their path, to choose who they want to be and to rule out the obstacles that can get in their way. Parents please plan to attend this forum. Please make sure that we have your correct contact information so we can provide you with any school related updates. Also, we have many opportunities for parents to volunteer in our school. Please complete the Volunteer in Medford form on the district website. As a Hedrick staff we value our parent partnerships. We appreciate that you guide and support your childs learning by ensuring that he/she: 1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the days learning experience 2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers 3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills 4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life 5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject 6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to post-secondary education. Progress reports will be mailed home soon. These reports will reflect where your student is academically at the half-waypoint of the first quarter. Please speak with your child regarding their learning. Urge them to see their teachers to demonstrate their learning of a specific target or make-up any missing work. Please feel free to call or email your childs teachers if you have questions. Principal Message

Dear Hedrick Families,

"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower."- Albert Camus

Beautiful October has arrived! During the first weeks of school our Hedrick teams have worked very well together to ensure an awesome school year for your child. Registration, first day of school for 6th and 7th graders, first day of school for all students, challenging and fun lessons, sports, activities, open house, carnival night of the vaux swifts, are just a few events to begin our school year!

This month, Judge Ravassipour will be speaking with all 7th grade students in their social studies classes. She is presenting the “Rule Out” program to engage our youth with the local justice system. The Judge will discuss the Bench’s perspective on issues of substance abuse, social media and drugs.

On October 26th from 6-8 pm, Judge Ravassipour and a panel consisting of Sheriff Nate Sickler, a prosecutor, a public defender and counselor will be holding a community forum here at Hedrick in the multipurpose room. The Judge will work with parents to promote the power of choice for their students, to choose their path, to choose who they want to be and to rule out the obstacles that can get in their way. Parents please plan to attend this forum.

1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience

2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers

3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills

4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life

Library News: The Hedrick Library is sponsoring a Super Hero Super Reader contest during first quarter. All students who got within 70% of their AR goal by progress reports last week got a candy prize. At the end of the quarter on October 25, the English class with the highest average AR points per student will win Donut Country donuts and super-hero bookmarks. But wait, there’s more. All English teachers will be able to award their top five AR point earners, plus five more students of their choice whom they believe deserve recognition for their reading. And finally, for our Super super readers who get 100 or more AR points by October 25, we will invite them to a Bobbio’s pizza lunch and put their name in a drawing for a brand new Kindle Fire! Happy Reading Hornets!

Annual Child Find Notification—Services for Students with Special Needs

Are you concerned about your child’s development? Do you feel your child has significant learning, speech/language, physical or behavioral problems that interfere with their classroom performance? Medford School District 549C wants to find and evaluate the skills of children under the age of 21 years living within its district boundaries who have serious physical, vision, hearing, speech/language, learning, or emotional problems so that appropriate educational services may be provided for them. If you have concerns about your child’s development, please contact the school office or the Student Services Office at 541-842-3628.

BUS RAMP PARKING

For the safety of our students, we ask that parents please avoid driving their automobiles on the bus ramp during school days. Buses need access to the bus ramp prior to and after school each day.

The ramp cannot accommodate buses and automobiles safely. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hedrick Administration

PICKING UP YOUR STUDENT EARLY?

If you must pick up your student early from school please allow ample time for a message to get to your

student instructing them to come to the office. It is requested that if you are planning to pick your student up

early to call about an hour ahead of time (or earlier) so we can have them ready when you arrive.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to quickly locate and retrieve a particular student during PE and the lunch

times. We will do our best to find your student if you arrive unannounced to pick them up, however you

should expect a wait time in order to have your student located and sent to the office.

If your student is in the midst of state required testing, it may also be difficult to remove your student from the

secure testing room. Attempts to remove just one student also interrupts the ability of the rest of the class to

focus on their test. No passes are delivered to testing rooms and the use of intercoms is prohibited during

this time.

Please know that if you have not called ahead to allow ample time for a message to get to your student, it

will take some time to have them ready for you. We ask that you kindly remain patient as you wait for your

student.
