Horizon Elementary
Home of the Red Tail
Hawks!
Dear Horizon Families,
On behalf of the entire Horizon faculty and staff, we sincerely
hope you have had a warm welcome and a good kickoff to the
school year here at Horizon. It is our job to ensure that your
child(ren) feel(s) welcome, safe, and ready to learn. We also
believe there should be an element of fun with every day here
at Horizon. We think our students are wonderful! Let's con-
tinue to keep the lines of communication open. As always,
reach out if you have any concerns or great ideas for us.
As a reminder, parents are always welcome to join their chil-
dren for lunch. Please check in at the main office. Parents
should not enter the playground through the playground. If
you need to talk to your child about something or drop some-
thing off for your child, please follow the same guidelines as
entering the building at any other time. Please check in to
the main office and someone in the main office will have your
child come to the office for you. We appreciate your under-
standing as we are trying to keep our building and play-
ground safe.
We have our Hootie Hustle coming up this month! All par-
ents are welcome to come and help out, participate, or just
watch the Fun Run on October 13. This is a really fun day
for our students and for the staff. Let's hope for beautiful
weather.
Kind regards,
Michelle Kelly, Principal

and/or on field trips….
Parents, grandparents, relatives, etc...who plan on volunteering at Horizon, in
the district or going on school field trips, will need to have updated background checks on file
with the district. These need to be completed every 3 years. You can find the volunteer

Lice happens!
Did you know that the average person has had lice for 4-6 weeks before it is discovered? That makes this time of the year one of the peak seasons for lice discovery.
What to look for:
Intense itching and scratching of the scalp
Visible redness or sores from itching
Be on the look-out for nits (eggs) and live lice
Nits are tiny tear-drop shaped eggs that attach to the hair shaft. They often appear yel-lowish-whitish and can look like dandruff, but cannot be washed off or blown away like dandruff can.
Lice are small insects the size of a sesame seed. They do not jump or fly, but they move quickly and can be hard to see. Lice often are found around the ears or on the nape of the neck.
Please notify your child’s school and daycare. This helps us in tracking and efforts in pre-venting transmission in school. It is also a good idea to notify any close contacts such as friends, teammates, neighbors, or extended family.
If you would like more information about lice – check out the following websites:
www.cdc.gov/lice/head/factsheet.html
www.Kidshealth.org/parent/infections/common/head_lice.html
Thank you and if you have any questions,
please contact Nurse Lucia at 608-834-7906
there will be no formal parties scheduled for
Halloween. We ask that students not wear
costumes to school. Individual teachers may
have classroom parties for that day. Please
check with your child’s teacher.

Playground News
We have all been enjoying the nice weather outside. Keep in mind that we will have rainy days which means indoor recess for all the students and teachers :(
Please remember to bring a jacket and a hat for those cooler mornings and windy days. Rain boots are also nice to have for those muddy puddles students enjoy playing in.
Our music is back! We are currently working on down-loading music! Everything that we play is Kidz Bop Mu-sic.
We would like to tell you who is working with your kiddos on the playground, in the cafeteria, and in class-rooms this year…..
Mr. Hagen Mrs. Johnson Ms. Etchin Mrs. Fox
Please stop and say “hi” if you see any of us!
Enjoy the beautiful weather! Talk to you all next month.

Peachjar is a digital backpack
where flyers are stored and sent
home electronically. Your family is
automatically signed up to receive
flyers related to school/district and
community activities and events.
One feature of Peachjar is the ability for families to select whether they want
to receive the messages daily or weekly. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the
frequency of Peachjar messaging, go to Peachjar.com and change your prefer-
ence. Another great feature is that our school website has a Peachjar icon
where current flyers can be viewed by anyone. If you have other family mem-
bers that would like to stay connected to this school information, they can click
on the school website OR they can go to Peachjar.com and sign themselves up
to receive flyers electronically,
The District will continue to pilot Peachjar through this school year and will
be conducting a survey to measure satisfaction with this method of receiving
school/district/community information.
