September 4, 11, 18, 25: Weekly Nature Walks 1-2:30pm. Relaxed, guided walks.September 13: Guided Paddle 8am-12pm. Guided Paddle of Horicon Marsh SWA. Pre-registration required and $15 fee. Register at: www.horiconmarsh.org. Friends members free.September 14: Monarch Tagging 10am-12pm. Catch monarchs and watch as DNR staff tag these migrants as they head to Mexico. Bring your best bug-catching net if you have one!September 19: Stories at the Marsh: Sandhill Cranes 10-11am. Come learn about this majestic bird through stories, activities and a craft. Age 1-6.September 27: Fall Living History Festival Education Day 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. School groups and students of all learning styles are invited to the Marsh Haven encampment for a day filled with hands-on demonstrations and a step back into the pages of Wisconsin history. Free.September 28: National Public Lands Day Seed Collection 10-11am. Help collect native prairie seeds. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. Meet at the Egret Trail boardwalk parking lot off of the refuge auto tour (Hwy 49). September 28: Wild Women Workshop 9am-1pm. A fun and hands-on workshop designed for women ages 18 and up, focusing on various outdoor skills. Pre-registration and $20 nonrefundable fee at www.horiconmarsh.org. September 28-29: Fall Living History FestivalThe general public is invited to visit the past at this encampment and learn more about Native Americans, Voyageurs, the War of 1812, soap making, candle making, trapping, blacksmithing, fiber arts, rug weaving, porcelain painting and so much more! $ October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30: Weekly Nature Walks 1-2:30pm. Relaxed, guided walks.October 5: Wild Birds of Prey 1pm. Have you ever wanted to see a hawk or owl close up? This program will introduce some of Wisconsin’s raptors through a photo presentation, mounted specimens, and LIVE birds. $October 5-6: Where are the Geese and Cranes? 10am-5pm. Drop in throughout the day to find out where the Canada Geese are and learn about their history at Horicon. Displays only, no guided hike.

October 12: Refuge 5K Run/Walk for Wildlife 9-11:30am. For pre-registration information: www.fws.gov/reuge/horicon/ October 12: Wild Birds of Prey 1pm. Have you ever wanted to see a hawk or owl close up? This program will introduce some of Wisconsin’s raptors through a photo presentation, mounted specimens, and LIVE birds. $October 12-13: Horicon Marsh Archaeological Festival Sat: 10am-5pm, Sun: 10am-4pm. Buckskinners encampment, atlatl throwing, fire-starting, artifacts, a drum circle, expert speakers, vendors and more!October 17: Stories at the Marsh: Leaves10-11am. Learn why leaves change color through stories, activities and a walk out to the island to find leaves of different colors. Ages 1-6 years. October 19: Wild Birds of Prey 1pm. Have you ever wanted to see a hawk or owl close up? This program will introduce some of Wisconsin’s raptors through a photo presentation, mounted specimens, and LIVE birds. $October 19: Ducks, Geese & Cranes OH My! Bus Tour 3-6pm. Horicon is renowned for the annual fall migration of waterfowl. Join us on a guided bus tour of the Horicon area. Pre-registration and $15 non-refundable fee required at www.horiconmarsh.org. Limit 30.October 20: Monsters on the Marsh 9am-4pm. Visit in costume for games, scavenger hunt, cupcake decorating, and hike through the haunted woods! Visit with our costumed critters, go fishing in the fish pond and make a fall-themed craft to take home. Family-friendly activities. $ October 26: Wild Birds of Prey 1pm. Have you ever wanted to see a hawk or owl close up? This program will introduce some of Wisconsin’s raptors through a photo presentation, mounted specimens, and LIVE birds. $October 26: Birding Old Marsh Road 9-10:30am. Guided hike to view birds in an area of the refuge that is only open seasonally. ½ mile-easy walking. Meet at the Egret Trail boardwalk parking lot off of the refuge auto tour off Hwy 49. November 2: Autumn Open House 10am-3pm. Musical performances by children’s artists Ken Lonnquist and Dave Adler at 11:00am. and 1:00 pm.; nature crafts; and family activities. Horicon Refuge Visitor Center (Cty Rd Z). November 6, 13, 20: Weekly Nature Walks 1-2:30pm. Relaxed, guided walks.November 12: Full Beaver Moon Hike 7-8pm. Join us for a beautiful walk under the full moon. November 21: Stories at the Marsh: Turkeys 10-11am. Gobble, gobble, gobble! Join us for stories and a craft. Ages 1-6 years.

Nov. 23-Dec. 1 & Dec. 12-15: Auto Tour Closed to Vehicles for Deer Gun Seasons Visitors are still welcome to use the area for hiking and other permissible activities but are required to wear blaze orange. December 1: Entire Refuge Opens for wildlife observation and nature photography via hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing through March 15. December 4, 11, 18: Weekly Nature Walks 1-2:30pm. Relaxed, guided walks.December 8: Christmas at Marsh Haven & Holiday Nature Craft Show 10am-3pm. Sleigh rides, food and beverages, free crafts for the kids, unique vendors/artisans. 11am: Awesome Animal Ambassadors program & 1pm: Wild Birds of Prey program. Free event.December 9: Marsh Haven Closes for the winter season. See you on April 13, 2020!December 12: Stories at the Marsh: Evergreen Magic 10-11am. Explore the magic of real evergreens and decorate a tree for the animals. Ages 1-6 years. December 12: Full Cold Moon Hike 7-8pm. Slow down and relax during the holiday season and immerse yourself under the tranquil moon.

December 14: Owl Prowl 6:30-8:30pm. Presentation featuring LIVE owls and then don your warm layers as we walk out to Indermuehle Island to call for owls. It will be a HOOT!January 4: Walk it Off with Winter Wildlife 10-11:30am. Join wildlife educators as we shed a few holiday pounds while searching for winter wildlife around the marsh! Snowshoes available.January 8, 15, 22, 29: Weekly Nature Walks 1-2:30pm. Relaxed, guided walksJanuary 9 & 11: Stories at the Marsh: Look Again 10-11am. Through stories and activities uncover how creatures of all kinds use camouflage to survive. Ages 1-6 years.January 18: Candlelight Hike 5-9pm. Youth program ages 7-11.February 1: Winter Birds Bus Tour 3-5:30pm. Search for cold weather visitors including rough-legged hawks, snow bunting and possibly snowy owls! February 8: Little Otters: Do You Want to Build a Snow-Mammal? 10-11:30am. You’ve built the snowman, but can you master the mammal? Dress warm! Youth program ages 1-6.February 8: Winter Wonderland 10am-2pm. Visit the rustic environmental education barn and enjoy crafts, displays and hot chocolate after snowshoeing, skiing or hiking on the refuge. Some snowshoes are available for loan. N10755 South Point Rd. (Off Cty Z & H).February 9: Full Snow Moon Hike 7-8pm. Grab your warm layers and embark on a hike under the beautiful winter sky! February 13 & 15: Stories at the Marsh: Do Frogs Drink Hot Chocolate? 10-11am. Discover how animals keep warm in the winter through stories and activities. Hot chocolate will be enjoyed after our walk. Ages 1-6 years.February 15 & 22: Snowshoeing at the Education Barn 10am-2pm. From icicles to pussy willows spring is the time for new life. Let’s go for a walk and observe how the earth is coming alive again after the cold winter.
