And Hoppelpoppel, where are you? surely is the most touching of Fallada’s children’s stories, which Christa Unzner has illustrated congenially in the spirit of our time. Little Thomas moves house with his parents. In the tangles of the move his beloved stuffed dachshund »Hoppelpoppel« is left on the train. But Thomas cannot live without his Hoppelpoppel, as »it was true love«. So his father travels to Berlin in order to look for a new Hoppelpoppel, and he does find one that is just right. But on the way back another little boy falls in love with the stuffed dog and won’t give it back. This puts the father into quite a dilemma...

   But in the end, human kindness prevails …

Then, his novels Little Man, What Now? and Every Man Dies Alone made him world- famous. The i l lustrator Christa Unzner, born in Berlin, studied Applied Graphics and has been working as a freelance illustrator since 1982. She has illustrated more than 100 books, mostly children’s books, some of which have been published world-wide. After living abroad (Mexico, Nicaragua and the Netherlands) for many years, she now lives in Berlin and the south of France with her husband and dog.
