sorrows, and burdens together. In worship and life we are a family. Help us make this work like you want it to. Use the fellowship pads in the pew, call or e-mail the office, or talk to a deacon. Let us know when you are sick or homebound, or when a friend or loved one is. Let us do what we should as a family.

DEACONS ’ CORNER

FROM THE PULPIT COMMITTEE

Recently I saw the following poster and thought of our church situation: Where there is HOPE,

There is FAITH. Where there is FAITH, Miracles can happen.

Yes, that’s what we’re hoping for! The Pulpit Committee has worked long and hard to find a new minister who is a good fit for Hope Church. We have examined 63 profiles and as we get closer to making a selection of the very best candidate for Hope, we are also concerned about our church’s financial situation. Once we make our best

selection, will we be able to afford that candidate? We HOPE so! The Trustees are asking for financial help from all of us. The Pulpit Committee is echoing that appeal. Let’s all help HOPE to be financially healthy again. We have done amazing financial things in the past to care for our church home – fixed and paid for our new roof, replaced and paid for our new sail windows, etc.

Let’s get HOPE back on firmer financial ground so our new minister can see what miracles can happen at HOPE.

Got HOPE????

We do. The HOPE Pulpit Search Committee:

―everybody knows.‖ Some-times, too, friends and family are so busy caring for a loved one that it just slips the mind. Whatever the reason, it greaves us when one of our brothers or sisters is disappointed

in the response of their church in their time of need.

We all, together, are Hope Church. We share our joys,

We Deacons are always trying to make sure that the correct level of care is offered by the church when a fellow congregant is ill, homebound, or in the hospital. But sometimes it is a challenge to know when care is needed. Sometimes we don’t know because the person does not want to be a burden. Some-times we don’t know because the person who does know assumes that

Participants will have the oppor-tunity to make simple Christmas ornaments and decorations both for the Hope Christmas tree and to take home. Kathy White will be preparing a variety of Christmas crafts, including pipe cleaners and beads, paper crafts, decorative chains and even

On Sunday, December 6th the Social Life Committee will prepare a breakfast at 8:30 A.M. followed by the Christmas Workshop at 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. in the Fellowship Hall. The workshop is for families and people of all ages, especially those young-at-heart.

Whiffle Dust (magic reindeer food to sprinkle on your lawn). Cal Bonnivier will be demonstrating her wood-block house ornaments. There will be a sign-up sheet in the church entry. Please come on that Sunday and enjoy this newly-reinstated, Hope Church tradition!

HOPE HAPPENINGS ~ DECEMBER 2009

FROM ROBIN ’S ROOST

Our liturgical color is purple, the color shared by Advent before Christmas and Lent before Easter. Advent and Lent are seasons of penitence, preparation, reflection, expectation and waiting.

ADVENT!!!

Advent always envelops me. This dark, wet, windy place swallows me into the preparing time and I sink into the gestating cave. I see us gathering around the Advent wreath like the ancient storytellers around the fire. We begin again to tell our story -- one more time. I love beginning the new cycle, entering the rhythm of the New Church Year. ADVENT: the great waiting time that our consumer culture has filled with so much activity we can hardly breathe. ADVENT: the great waiting, hoping, dreaming time, during which we are: invited, called, urged to be alert to the signs of the times in nature and the world. ADVENT: the great

ADVENT!!! DID YOU KNOW???

ADVENT is: the four Sundays before Christmas.

ADVENT is: the beginning of the church year. Our ADVENT WREATH contains evergreen representing the life that is found in Christ and candles symbolizing the living light. Nov. 29 we light the ADVENT

CANDLE of HOPE.

Dec. 6 we light the ADVENT CANDLES of HOPE and

PEACE.

Dec. 13 we light the ADVENT CANDLES of HOPE, PEACE

and JOY.

Dec. 20 we light the ADVENT CANDLES of HOPE, PEACE,

JOY and LOVE.

Christmas eve we light candles of HOPE, PEACE, JOY, LOVE

and the central CHRIST CANDLE.

waiting, hoping, dreaming time as we wander hoping and longing for Jesus The Way. Advent is a season of waiting, of longing for God to bring a new day. It is important work, this expectant longing, because it stands as a hope-filled criticism of the way things are. This is not the best of all possible worlds. We are invited into the creative process of imagining and creating a better world.

Have a good Advent. Move ever closer to the Holy. Make space and place for the Holy One to be in your life. Advent Blessings to YOU. PASTOR ROBIN

Huge THANKS to all who worked with our youth during November! In Synergy: Mark Nelson, Marge Forrest, Tom Minahan (Galileo), Karen Rittle (peace), and Claire Minahan (Mohandas Gandhi); and in Foundations, Jenny Lou Carmody, Nancy Feld and Maetta Chase.

The Christmas pageant will be December 20, with youth doing most of the service. During December, the Sunday morn-ing programming will center around preparations for the pageant. It is being organized by Karen Rittle. Be sure to come watch! There will be no youth programming on Dec. 27

or Jan. 3, due to school vacation.

Now is the time to look at your calendar and sign up to lead a Synergy Program during the New Year! One Sunday, for 30 minutes, meet with our youth to discuss either one of your passions or a great Spiritual Leader. Claire is scheduling 2010 during December, after church services.

Confirmation class continues every other Sunday. It is so great to see High School Stu-dents in church! Confirmation classes are scheduled for December 6 and 20, and January 3, 17 and 31. During the alternate weeks in January,

they hope to visit other congregations.

Youth Groups are still looking for leaders! If you can meet with High School or Middle school students on a regular basis ( weekly, monthly, or seasonally) speak with Rev Reed about your willingness. Help is available, you needn't go it alone, but we do need you!

If anyone is interested in Christmas Caroling for Shut-ins, contact Claire (746-8726) and we'll set a date around Christmas! An intergenerational group would be awesome!

Welcome, Joy Kuesel! The Hope Church Personnel Committee welcomes Joy Kuesel to Hope as our new Administrative Assistant! She will be serving us each day, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Let us briefly introduce her to you, Members and Friends of Hope. Joy lives in Algoma. She's the mother of three grown children:

--a daughter, Amy, who is a professor at UW-Oshkosh and lives in Appleton;

--a son, Christopher, who with his wife and son live in Maryland; in the Air Force, he flies Air Force Two for

government dignitaries; --a daughter, Becky, who has

two girls ages 8 and 13; they live in Fish Creek.

Joy has worked for several professional offices, in the area and in other communities. These include the local Counseling Associates of Door County, Counseling and Development Center in Sheboygan, and a couple of dental offices. She enjoys many hobbies, including her years of playing classical piano (and the baby grand she has at home), singing, quilting, all types of theater, and biking. She is a member of St. Agnes by the Lake Episcopal church in Algoma.

Over time we hope you all will get a chance to meet Joy, either in person at the office or over the phone. She's looking forward to meeting you and to be able to do whatever she can to help us all grow in serving each other and helping our Hope church. We feel fortunate to have Joy as an important part of us. Your Personnel Committee--
