Hope Alive Uganda (HAU) is a charitable, non profit organization that works in partnership with communities through

*poverty relief*sustainable development*education and *HIV/AIDS prevention initiatives

to improve the care, protection and support of orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda. 

Our aim is to promote and create self reliancy and ownership.

Hope Alive Uganda (HAU)

• Hope Alive Uganda runs its fundraising activities in the Netherlands and also, a market for Hope Alive Uganda's crafts project is created in the Netherlands

• Hope Alive Uganda is an organization officially registered in Uganda and the Netherlands

• Our board is: Esther Haaisma (director), Eddy Kiirya Mpoya (director), Dr.

Simon Peter Oullo (chairman), Florence Nangobi (treasurer), Jonathan Kalisha (vice chairman) , David Kawomera (accountant ) and Judith Driciru (secretary).

Hope Alive Uganda (HAU) 

• has been working in Kisozi for the last two years and has recently started to work in Jinja as well.

• runs most of its projects in Kisozi: a goats project, chicken project, cycling-to-school project, vegetable project and an HIV/AIDS program.

• Hope Alive Uganda has recently started to work in Jinja as well and is supporting women in Jinja through a crafts project

Goats project The idea behind this project is that the orphans will give back the

first female offspring to Hope Alive Uganda.  Hope Alive Uganda will then pass it on to another orphan. 

The orphans can use the goats and their offspring to help themselves pay schoolfees, schooluniforms, schoolmaterials or simply, to live their lives.  They can do this by selling milk, by selling goats etcetera

Chicken project The chicken project is set

up to support the children and needy families buy schooluniforms, schoolfees, schoolmaterials and to live their lives.   And naturally, they can eat the eggs laid by the chicken!  Also, the chicken project will partly serve as an income generating activity for Hope Alive Uganda.

Cycling-to-school project

The cycling-to-school-project gives students the chance to buy a bike on credit. Many students have to come from far and need to go to school on foot.

Vegetable project• This vegetable project was

set up to support the children and needy families living a healthier life and improve the variety in food.  This will contribute to improving their health and condition. 

• Hope Alive Uganda bought a variety of seeds, such as seeds for soya beans, peppers, onions, cabbage, tomatoes carrots and some local vegetables.

• The orphans and their guardians were instructed how to maintain their gardens well.

 Tailoring project • Hope Alive Uganda wishes to empower women to strengthen the

women's positions and improve the circumstances of needy women, widows and women that are HIV/AIDS infected.

• Women are trained to use sewing machines and a small business is started with them.

• In April, the tailoring project started with a group of 10 women.

Hiv/ aids program• Empower the young people with the necessary information to help

them in fighting HIV/AIDS through peer counseling and training • Although world leaders committed in the (Declaration of

Commitment) that by 2005, 90% of young people would know how to protect themselves from infection, in the hardest hit countries like Uganda, currently less than 40% of young men and less than 36% of young women can correctly identify how to prevent HIV.

• At the end of the training, the pupils received a certificate.

Goals

• The construction of Hope Alive study centre

• Setting up an HIV/AIDS information centre, structural training program for youths in primary and secondary schools and setting up counseling groups for men and women with AIDS

• Building a borehole to provide safe (drinking) water for the community

• Setting up a sponsorship program for tuition, scholastic materials, school uniforms etc.

• Establishing projects and activities the generate income (tailoring program for women, catering project, vocational trainings, chicken project, crafts project)

• Creating reusable pads
