Kupuohi X-perience Comes to a Successful
Close!
Congratulations to everyone whom
completed their journey in the Fall Kupuohi X-
perience! You have all taken important steps
to better your future – maika’i! The workshop
series ended with a special hōʻike luncheon
on Friday November 30th at The Pearl. We are
proud of all our participants and hope to see
many more new faces in the future!

Kupuohi Fall 2012 Cohort
The Kupuohi X-perience is a semester-long
series of workshops dedicated toward giving
students the X-factor – a competitive edge in
searching, applying to, interviewing and
landing a job as well as other aspects of
college life.
Participants also benefit from mana’o on
how to get financial aid for college, apply for
scholarships, and manage personal finances.
For more information about how you can
sign up for the Kupuohi X-perience, please
come in to the Hālau and speak with a
counselor.

Winter Campus Closures & Hālau Hours
The Leeward Community College Pearl
City and Wai'anae campuses will be closed to
the general public from Monday, December
17, 2012 through Tuesday, January 1,
2013. Regular campus activity will resume on
Wednesday, January 2, 2013.”
Hālau services will be limited to
appointments made with Counselor Piʻikea
Hardy-Kahaleoumi. Please contact her at 455-
0249 to schedule an appointment. No other
Hālau services will be offered during Winter
Break
Campus Restrictions
Campus security will be provided
throughout the specified periods on a 24-
hours/7-days/week basis but at a
reduced holiday staffing level. Parking
lots and campus access may be
restricted to facilitate coverage and
reduce unauthorized individuals entering
the College.
Campus support services (e.g., secretarial,
personnel, business/cashier, copying,
computer help desk, cafeteria, library…)
will not be provided.
Due to reduced staffing, only a
few restrooms (to be determined)
will be available.
There will be no campus mail
delivery or postal services. No one
will be available to accept parcel
post deliveries, which should be
rescheduled to after the specified
periods.
The bookstore will be closed to
walk-in business during the
specified periods.
Already contracted events on
campus will go on as planned.

Deans of UH Hilo Share Their Mana’o
The Deans of UH Hilo visited Leeward CC on Saturday, December 1, 2012. Mahalo to those
of you who made reservations to come to the event! We all thank the deans for sharing their
mana’o and discussing with us the opportunities offered at UH Hilo campus.
Native Hawaiian Scholarship ‘Aha – The best current information on available scholarships!
Take advantage of opportunities to fund your education! You can do so by attending the
annual Native Hawaiian Scholarship ‘Aha. The ‘Aha itself is an initiative of the Office of
Hawaiian Affairs. This year, the ‘Aha will be held in conjunction with the Leeward Scholarship
Fair, a joint effort between the Leeward Community College and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
Ke Ala ‘Ike Scholarship Workshop
Hālau Coordinator, Auli’i Silva will host a scholarship workshop on January 24, 2013
1:30 - 3pm in DA 105. If you have any questions about scholarships or applications, this is the
time to ask!

Scholarship season is just around the corner (January – March.) We encourage you
to prep for your essays during the winter break by drafting responses to the following

having Kaulana Mahina shared with us. The newsletter speaks of the current
Hawaiian lunar month, as well as mana’o about Hawaiian constellations.

Kalei’s initiative, higher resolution calendars are
available for sale in PDF format. Kalei will respond

Native Hawaiian Art Sale! Christmas
Gift Ideas!
We are pleased to announce the
14th annual art sale hosted by ‘Aukele
and Friends. This amazing sale
happens only once a year! Please
support these wonderful cultural
craftsmen and women by stopping by
the art sale on December 8th or 9th,
10am – 4pm at 2170 Atherton Road.
The craftsmen are also there to
discuss their work and give quick tips
to any of you whom are interested in
cultural art. More information may be

Be sure to welcome our newest initiative to the Hālau ‘ohana: Pūkani blog.
From now on, most of the information you find in Ho’ohuli ka Lima will also be
posted on Pūkani for convenient access and ease of sharing. Since the
newsletter cannot come out daily, Pūkani is useful to find current information
before or after the newsletter has come out.
When you want to look up the date to an event or deadline, simply look it up
