As Campaign Chair, I had the honour of meeting many people, from all walks of life, who believe in building a better community for everyone and who gave generously to help their neighbours. People like you. Because of your commitment, passion and generosity - possibilities and opportunities have been created for thousands of people. Whether it’s a child newly arrived in our community and settling into a new school,

a youth whose mentor is helping them stay in school, a dad receiving support to get back into the workforce, or a senior who is able to stay in her own home – it is you who makes the difference. And when we all come together, that difference in people’s lives becomes lasting change for our whole community.

One gift. Double the impact.The Leadership Challenge Grant provides a dollar for dollar match to all new and increased Leadership donations of $1,200 or more. Seventeen innovative community champions, dedicated to building a stronger London and Middlesex County, matched 536 new and increased Leadership gifts this year. Together, they leveraged over half-a-million dollars to invest in vital programs that help meet urgent needs and build longer-term independence and success for people in our community.

For Malcolm and Dee and their family, giving to the United Way has been a tradition for more than 20 years. The couple got involved with United Way through workplace campaigns and Malcolm has also given his time as part of the allocations committee, helping to direct funds where they will have the greatest impact.

Though Deanna Collins had known about United Way since she was a child, crediting this to her parents’ values around giving back, it was a GenNext impact experience that really drove home the message about how essential her donations are. “It was completely eye-opening to hear how many calls our local mental health and sexual assault crisis lines get,” Deanna explains. “With so many organizations and causes worthy of support, I like knowing that United Way takes the homework out of which I should give to by making my contributions help as many needs possible.”

For almost 30 years, Todd Woytiuk has been a champion of United Way and credits a unique experience between plant management and union representatives as the shining example why he remains committed. Looking back, Todd says that even though he was already involved with United Way, what he saw that morning set the bar. “After a full night of tense negotiations, the two teams still showed up for our early campaign meeting,” he explains. “It showed me that our unions and management understood United Way was more important, to put aside the talks for a few hours and come together for a bigger cause.”
