THE FSU SUMMER MUSIC CAMPS presents JUNE 23 - JULY 6, 2013 If you are looking for advanced, pre-collegiate instruction this is the camp for you! The Honors Chamber Winds Camp provides a unique opportunity for fifteen musicians who seek an exceptional summer experience. Two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two trumpets, one trombone, one tuba, and three horns are selected by audition to work on a collegiate level with FSU faculty members. In addition to regular practice and instruction, all campers will perform in quintets specializing in music for small wind ensembles. Campers at this camp also create the wind section of the Symphony Orchestra. Auditions are required for this camp. Recorded auditions must be postmarked by March 11, 2013. REGISTRATION OPENS JANUARY 3, 2013 Eligibility Campers must have attended grades 9-12 in the ‘12-’13 school year. (Rising 9th graders during summer 2013 are not eligible). Cost for Day Students $0.00 There is no tuition if you are accepted to this camp. Cost for Overnight Students $395.00 There is no tuition if you are accepted to this camp. Cost includes housing, plus three meals per day. Check-In Date Sunday, June 23, 2013 9:00-12:00pm (EST) All campers must attend check-in. If you can not arrive during the designated times due to extenuating circumstances, arrangements must be made in advance with the camp office. HONORS SOLO RECITALCampers have the option to audition to participate in the Honors Solo Recital. This special recital will be performed on Wednesday, July 3 and will include campers from Senior High Band Camp, String Orchestra Camp and Honors Chamber Winds Camp. Approximately 15 campers will be selected to perform. Two rounds of auditions will be held. Audition dates, time and details will be provided at camp.

If you would like to audition, please keep the following in mind when preparing music to bring with you:• The music you audition with will be the music you perform at the recital• All music must be a music Class A or higher.• There is a time limit of 6 minutes• All parts must be original - NO PHOTOCOPIES of music are allowed• Only solos (with or without accompaniment) are acceptable. No ensembles, no trios, no duets.• If an accompanist is required, one will be provided

SAMPLE DAILY SCHEDULE

To submit a recorded audition, please follow the instructions below:Make a recording on a CD or Cassette Tape only. NO DVD, NO VHS and NO MINI AUDIO TAPES. Clearly mark your CD or tape with your name, phone number and “Chamber Winds”

The recording must include the following: Two pieces of contrasting style (ex. one up-tempo & one lyrical) Two scales of your choice

Write a brief, 1 page resumé detailing your playing experience. This may include school experience, special performances, other camps you have attended, private lesson experience and any other pertinent musical details. AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS PRIVATE LESSONSThis camp offers students the option to sign up for private lessons at an additional cost of $25.00 per 45-minute lesson. All lessons are organized and paid for on the first day of camp at check-in. Lessons are scheduled with a teacher based on availability.

Most lessons will be with a graduat student. Typically, FSU faculty are not available for lessons during the summer. In the rare case that they can teach a lesson, the cost will be $45.00 for a 45-minute lesson.

The lesson will take place during lunch or duringa sectional rehearsal; no lessons are scheduled outside of the 8am-5pm class day. Payments for lessons are payable by cash or check only and checks must bemade payable directly to the instructor.
