Backpacks for Kids

For the fourth year in a row, Good Shepherd associates donated

backpacks to children in need at Roosevelt Elementary School in

Allentown. The event was spearheaded by Good Shepherd’s

United Way committee and resulted in the donation of 289

backpacks filled with school supplies and toiletries. Nearly

90 percent of the children at Roosevelt come from low-income

families.

Good Shepherd is deeply appreciative of the community and individualsupport towards the growth of its endowment funds. Endowmentsare received from donors with the requirement that the principalremain intact in perpetuity. Income is allocated based on the purposeof the fund.

Good Shepherd Endowment Funds –Investment Objective and Spending PolicyThe Investment Committee, which is a subcommittee of the FinanceCommittee, is responsible for the management and oversight of alltemporarily and permanently restricted, operating and pensioninvestments. The Committee is governed by an investment policy, whichis applied universally to all of these assets.

Good Shepherd also has an endowment spending policy that is overseenby the Finance Committee and the Board of Trustees. Under this policy,the annual distribution from each endowment account will be fivepercent of the three-year rolling average fair market value.

Following is a summary of the existing endowment funds at the endof FY14.

Unrestricted - Used towards general operations of the entities withinGood Shepherd.

Conrad W. Raker Educational Endowment - Used as a fundingmechanism for the education and training of Good Shepherdemployees.

Linny and Beall Fowler Endowment for Pediatrics - Provides aperpetual source of funding to benefit all the children served by GoodShepherd’s Pediatrics Program.

Joseph & Marjorie Correll Pediatric Chair - Used as a perpetualfunding mechanism for Good Shepherd’s developmentalpediatrician.

Howard W. and Ester M. Dornsife Endowment for Pediatrics -Used on an annual basis to support the Dornsife Pediatric Center.

Donley Family Pediatrics Endowment - Used towards supportingoperating expenses associated with the Developmental PediatricsProgram.

Romig-DeYoung Community Access - Used for the psychosocial andrecreational enrichment of residents through community outings aswell as interstate trips including, but not limited to concerts, restaurants,sporting events, amusement parks and recreational areas. Monies fromthis fund also will be used to purchase transportation vehicles andequipment for community access by residents.

Pediatric Endowment - Used to support Good Shepherd’s PediatricProgram.

Walter W. and Jacqueline G. Mock Fund for Pediatrics -Provides income in perpetuity to support charitable care, staff educationand training, salaries, equipment, technology, research and other expensesof the Pediatrics Program.

Long-Term Care Endowment - Directed towards operating needsassociated with the Conrad W. Raker Center and the Good ShepherdHome – Bethlehem.

Rehabilitation Hospital Endowment - Directed towards operatingneeds associated with the rehabilitation hospitals.

Jaindl Family Neurologic Endowment - Used towardsoperating costs associated with the Neurorehabilitation Programat Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital. This includes patientswith stroke, as well as brain or spinal cord injury.

John Raker Hudders Endowment - Provides funding forcontinuing education of staff working with patients recoveringfrom brain injury.

Fleming Family Endowment - Used to support the AssistiveTechnology and Research programs at Good Shepherd.

Walter W. Mock, Sr., Ph.D., and Marie S. Mock Fund forResearch and Technology - Used to support technology andresearch programs at Good Shepherd.

Oberly-Allen Nursing Scholarship Endowment - Used as afunding mechanism for the education and training of GoodShepherd nurses.
