Creative TheatrePut an active imagination to work. The class will focus upon the

fundamentals of acting, voice projection, storytelling, and movement

through a series of dramatic games and exercises. Students will help to

create, design, and perform their own original skit. Please note: The

April 13 class will run at the Kinsmen Leisure Centre in the

Theatre Tour & Performing Arts Workshop @ Festival Place

Get a behind the scenes tour of this vibrant performing arts facility and learn how performers, staff and stage crew bring countless productions and programs to life for our community. Clay Dabblers 5Y - 8Y 9:30 - 11 am 97264

A hand building program for children that will introduce the pinch, coil and slab methods. These will be used to create a variety of fun projects. All

materials are supplied. Some projects will be glazed and fired and other pieces will be painted, as children enjoy the colour experience that cannot

be achieved through glazing. Pick up date to be announced.

experienced potters will be accommodated. All materials are supplied. Some projects will be glazed and fired and other pieces will be painted, as

Teens will get to create and have fun behind a pottery wheel! We will create thrown pieces and construct hand built projects as well. Some pieces

may be glazed. For safety reasons, please wear closed-toe shoes and avoid loose clothing. Pick up date to be announced.

Wednesdays | 3 - 4 p.m. Fun swim is a drop-in activity, so no need to register. Parents and their children can drop-in for $2 each. Children under the age of 8 are welcome to use the aquatic centre when accompanied in the water by someone 14 years or older. If your child is registered for lessons, please pay prior to lessons and get a wristband.

Home School Learn to DiveLearn to dive in this introductory recreational diving program for children and

youth. Each session is a new experience as dive coaches work with the existing

strengths and abilities of each new group. Learn about diving safety, fitness and

elementary body positions. Students will progress at their own pace beginning

with basic skills and moving to more advanced skills based on the CADA learn

to dive program modules. Children must be comfortable swimming in deep

water and be able to tread water for a minimum of 2 minutes to register for

this class. If your child has previously been in Learn to Dive lessons, please

bring your child’s progress card to the first lesson. PILOT: We are testing a

homeschool diving program to see if there is potential to run diving programs

during Homeschool swimming lessons. Please note that this program may not be

available each session.

Kinsmen Leisure Centre

The Kinsmen Leisure Centre is pleased to offer a variety of aquatic programs for each age and ability. A variety of recreational swims, structured swim lessons, specialty programs and aquatic fitness opportunities are also offered.

Instructor ResourcesThe Kinsmen Leisure Centre can provide an aquatic instructor and an aquatic program developed specifically to meet the curriculum needs for Junior and Senior high school aquatics. For high school physical educators that book their mutual use time at the Kinsmen Leisure Centre, an instructor program fee may be charged to the school so that a qualified instructor can present a tailored and unique curriculum based program. A variety of elements can be included - the basics of water safety, stroke correction, aquatic sports such as waterpolo, underwater hockey, stroke improvement and lifesaving sports. (Please note that reciprocal use times are planned around scheduled program times.)

Daytime/ After School Swim LessonsDaytime swim lessons are always a popular activity, teach great life-skills on being safe in, on and around the water and are designed to meet curriculum requirements. Lessons can be provided in a 6, 7 or 8-week format. This program does fill quickly and is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. We are always happy to try and accommodate every request when possible.

Other activities that your school(s) may be interested in: drop-in swims, scuba/snorkel lessons, deep and shallow aqua-fitness classes and specialty programs such as diving or special needs swim classes. The Strathcona Wilderness Centre is located only 20 minutes east of Sherwood Park and is a premiere municipal park. Amenities include a fully equipped lodge, bunkhouses, campsites, a cookhouse and 12 kilometers of groomed hiking and cross country ski trails. Programs are delivered by highly qualified instructors who provide educational opportunities for both students and faculty. You may choose to come for a half day, a full day, or a multi-day program - stay in our lodge, bunkhouses or campsites. Modern and comfortable, rustic and adventurous, we offer it all!

Our Enrichment Programs have been designed to meet curriculum objectives in a variety of subject areas. Teachers may choose from standardized programs, or a custom program can be designed to meet your needs. All programs are active and fun and are delivered from an experiential framework. Programs run year-round, encouraging students to enjoy the outdoors in every season!

Winter brings opportunities for fitness and fun in the snow through cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, games and wilderness living skills programs. Spring, summer and fall bring opportunities for interpretive hikes, pond studies, canoeing, orienteering and wilderness living skills. Other programs offered year round provide learning in the Science and Social Studies curriculums. These include the Peoples of the Land and Nature Detective series of programs. All programs are curriculum based, and offer opportunities for youth to learn through active participation, cooperation and challenge.

Smeltzer House Pottery ProgramsOur pottery programs are designed to offer a challenging and creative educational experience to your students. Freedom of expression and imaginative use of materials are encouraged.

We’ll provide a unique experience that students wouldn’t normally get in school - working in a real pottery studio setting at the Clay Hut.

Clay programs are offered for kindergarten through grade 6. There are a variety of projects from which the teacher may choose including handprints, picture frames, animals, coil pots and seasonal sculptures.

Jayme Stone’s Lomax ProjectFebruary 20, 2015Two-time JUNO winning banjoist, composer and instigator Jayme Stone makes music inspired by sounds from around the world, bridging folk, jazz and chamber music. His latest project celebrates the work of folklorist and field recording pioneer Alan Lomax, and brings together a collaboration of some of North America’s most distinctive and creative roots musicians to revive, recycle and reinvent songs from the Lomax archive.Jayme Stone will lead an exploration of the Roots of North American Roots Music based on the work of Ethnomusicologist and folklorist Alan Lomax at Festival Place on February 20, 2015. This presentation is appropriate for Grades 7-12.
