SPECIAL ENGAGEMENT FILMS

THE JUNGLE BOOK: AN IMAX 3D EXPERIENCE®April 14, 2016 through April 28, 2016Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong'o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world. SPECIAL EXHIBIT NOW ON DISPLAY

Mindbender MansionNow on exhibit through May 1, 2016 Enter the wonderfully puzzling world of an exhibition that engages visitors in playful problem solving, Mindbender Mansion. The exhibit is filled with brain teasers and interactive challenges guaranteed to test the brain power and problem solving skills of even the most experienced puzzlers.

Visitors to this fun and quirky mansion are invited to join the Mindbender Society by gathering hidden clues and secret passwords scattered throughout the various thematic rooms of the house. The clues and passwords are revealed by solving select brainteasers and group challenges. Visitors are encouraged to think outside the box and collaborate with their fellow mansion guests to meet individual and group challenges, which include manipulating a tilt table, forming patterns in rolling chairs, keeping up with a conveyer belt, maneuvering a flying machine, and disco hopscotch spelling.

Math, science, and technology content are woven into the puzzles, videos, and group challenges found inside Mindbender Mansion. At the heart of the exhibit is the essential scientific task of problem solving and critical thinking. The puzzles are an excellent tool for explaining mathematical and physical science concepts. In order to solve these puzzles, visitors must identify patterns, think ahead, use logical reasoning, and look at the problems from different perspectives, setting aside preconceived ideas. The videos in each of the four Clue Vaults explain neuroscience-based principles, and tell the story of several inventors who have used problem solving skills to come up with new solutions to old problems. Additionally, the popular group challenges require communication, collaboration, leadership, and teamwork skills – skills that are critical in solving the challenges facing today’s businesses and communities.

and July.  Visitors will enjoy an entire evening of sea turtle exploration and identification while uncovering the natural history and myths of turtles. Nature permitting, participants will have a chance to watch a 300 pound Loggerhead sea turtle venture out of the ocean to lay her eggs. A female loggerhead sea turtle may travel thousands of miles to return to the beach where she hatched as a baby to lay her own eggs as an adult.

At 9:00 p.m., the adventure begins at the Museum of Discovery and Science with an informative hands-on session about turtles (land, fresh water and salt water) with an expanded focus on sea turtles. Guests will also meet the Museum’s Ambassador Loggerhead sea turtle who is almost one year old. Once it reaches an appropriate size it will be released in the ocean. Museum staff will provide answers to questions about nesting, threats and conservation before proceeding to the beach.

The adventure continues to Fort Lauderdale beach where Museum expert guides lead guests to the sea turtle’s nesting grounds to look for amazing sea turtles. We cannot guarantee a sea turtle will be spotted on every walk but when it does happen it is a natural wonder that no one will ever forget.

Guests should be prepared to walk approximately one to two miles, and provide their own transportation and snacks.  Participants must be 9 years of age or older. Advance reservations are required as space is limited.  Please call 954.713.0930 to make reservations. Prices are $18 for members and $20 for non-members.
