In Year 7, sets are of mixed ability. Sets are streamed in year 9, as this is when the preparation for GCSE study begins. A mathematics challenge club is run to stretch the most able pupils, and they are encouraged to solve more unusual problems that they may not get to see in the classroom. For those who attend this club, there is an opportunity to take part in the UKMT Team Mathematics Challenge. We also have a support programme in place, called Power of 2, which aims to give extra help in the form of one-on-one sessions during mathematics lessons each week.

Miss Higgins. The Head Of English Department.

Throughout Year 7, students study English through the Thematic curriculum, working closely with the Humanities Department to encourage strong cross-curricular links. Students are encouraged to learn in an independent fashion and develop confidence in improving their ranging BLP (Building Learning Power) skills. The Year Seven English curriculum allows students access to a range of texts, cultures and experiences; our students delve deep in to the worlds of novels, unravel the mysteries of poetry, and explore the theatrical delights of Shakespeare.Moving into Year 8, students begin to develop their poetry analysis even further by reading and discussing poems linked with Identity. In studying Shakespeare, the students get to meet the cackling witches of Macbeth or meet the fiery tempers of Kate in The Taming of the Shrew. Throughout the year, the students will enjoy their journey in developing their writing skills through travel writing and discussing the issues that are attached to Bullying. All in all, a fun packed year finished off with a reading of Willy Russells Our Day Out where the students will be taken on a school trip to remember! In the final year of Key Stage Three, Year 9 brings with it a year of getting to know George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men; studying controversial poems that encourage lively debate and discussion- not forgetting sailing away on John Cooper Clarkes dreamboat! The studying of Shakespeare introduces Year 9 to characters such as Othello and the much loved Shylock from The Merchant of Venice: Will he get his pound of flesh? The final term of Year 9 begins to introduce students to their GCSE studies. It begins with developing creative writing skills and dont even get me started on the final term of Spoken Language where students explore how they adapt their language in a variety of contexts.HomeLessons Houses UniformResults.W:\ICT\ITQ\Unit 10 Presentation\Sources\Photos
