Follow a plan that allows you to be more organized. Your planto be organized doesn't have to be fancy or very complicated: thebest way to be organized is to work on your home consistently. –Most doctors recommend 20-30 minutes of strenuous exerciseevery day helps keep a body in shape; working 15-20 minutes aday to get organized will keep your mind in good health.

Form good organizational habits and become organized everydayby incorporating the following tips into your personal dailyroutine. A solid routine is essential in helping you to be organizeddaily, and feel in control of everything you need to cross off yourTo Do List.

Follow a routine

Have a plan of what you need to get done and when you're goingto check those actions items off your To Do list. Sticking to aroutine helps to automate tasks that need to get done -- whetheryou dread them or not -- because doing something every single daywill make your brain happy and help to create good habits.

We mostly jot items down on a grocery list as we need them, butdo we keep a list of things “to do”? Try this tip out by making ageneral plan for your day and stick to it for a week.

1. GATHER INFORMATION.

Capture all of the tasks you need to get done in a day.

Begin by answering these questions:

• What tasks do you you need to complete each day in order to getto work?

• Which tasks do you need to do each day to get your kids toschool?

• Which tasks do you need to do each day to eat?

• Which errands do you need to get done daily?

• Which tasks need to get done each done in order for you to getsome exercise?

• Which tasks do I need to get done to maintain an organizedhome?

Make a list. In the beginning nothing is too small, if you want towork "brush teeth" into your routine, that's great. When I wascreating mine, I found it much easier to throw everything in andedit out later.

2. DECIDE ON TIMING.

Most people have greater energy for creative thinking in themorning because self-control depletes throughout the day. Withthat in mind, here are some guidelines:

Morning

Mornings are about getting out the door, which in itself is a chal-lenge, especially if you have children. I like to get out the door asquickly possible because I know I do my best work in the morning.

Mornings should be reserved for the tasks that require the mostcritical thinking and trouble shooting. If you're a writer, make sureyou have time to write in the morning.

Midday

This time of day is very powerful because your energy (and coffeehigh) has likely dissipated. This means you're primed to do thereally boring, routine stuff. Use this time for tasks like answeringemails, setting appointments, online banking, researching necessi-ties like directions to upcoming appointments and recipes, and runsome errands if you have time (post office, dry cleaner, bank, etc.)

Evening

Evenings are for planning and preparation for the next day: putyour "get ready" activities like laying out your clothes, packinglunches, and de-cluttering in the evening.

If you follow the Weekly Organizing Routine, you're going tobe de-cluttering one room a day for 15-20 minutes.

3. MAKE ROOM FOR EXCEPTIONS.

Your work process or schedule may not fit neatly into this, andthat's OK; the point is to harness your most productive times to usefor your most challenging tasks, and your least productive timesto do the more mundane tasks. What I found while researchingdaily routines is that a lot of very successful people work all nightlong and sleep all day. If that's you, that's fine!

4. PUT ITALLTOGETHER.

To make this easier on you, de-clutter one room for 10 minuteseach day. You’ll see a huge change in a week.
