Replicating a firehouse not only provides kids with a fun

nd visually stimulating place to play, it helps to reinforcehe positive image of firefighters, as role models and

valuable members of the community, our “HometownHeroes”. Playing in a firehouse also helps reassure childrenhat these are safe havens and always welcome to visit.

This heroic message of safety and friendship is best said inhe poem Little Heroes by Peter Mudge:

 A pillar of smoke on the horizon of town,Smokey the Bear is nowhere to be found.Who will go rescue those people in need?The town needs a hero, a hero indeed.You know what to do! Your friends are there too,We must put an end to this hullabaloo!We must do our job, and must do it well,And all come back safe, so our tale we can tell.

 Alert in a moment, out of bed they must roll.One brave soul at a time, slides fast down the pole,And each grabs their helmet, well polished to gloss.“Let’s go, and let’s show that fire who’s boss!”

 You pick up your bucket, your shovel, your hose And give your Dalmatian a kiss on the nose,Then switch on your siren,

 And shine your bright light,To warn that big fire it’s in for a fight!

 The sun has gone down, by the time you return.The fire was fought, and will no longer burn.

Tired and weary, and covered in soot,You clean your equipment and away it is put.

 Together with friends, the day has been won,Although it’s hard work, you had lots of fun.And the time in between will be far from mundane,Until you must fight a fire again.
