I am also sending out a special shout out to all our families for their ongoing support. Education Week 2019 – ‘Every student, Every Voice’ Education Week was simply amazing! I would like to thank all the staff and families for making this week such a great week. We started the week with the Paul Kelly Cup State finals, where the girls did an amazing job. We just missed out on the semi-finals. All the girls displayed amazing sportsmanship and skill. Thank you to Mrs Cook for her organisation and coaching. On the Tuesday, three of our dance groups performed at the Community of School Concert. The dance groups were entertaining and demonstrated so much talent, flare and cuteness! All their many hours of practice paid off! Thank you to Miss Cascio, Miss Weeks, Miss Heron and Miss Premier for their leadership of the dance groups. Thank you also to Mrs Farah and Mrs Lazarevic for their support on the night with assisting the dancers to be stage ready! The concert was entertaining and showed great community spirit amongst the local schools. Wednesday saw the children come to school in their pyjamas! This was an SRC fundraiser for our sponsor students in Congo and Siza. Students were also encouraged to bring their favourite bedtime book to share with the class. Week 5 Week 6 Thursday was Open Classrooms, our Education Week Assembly and Book Fair. I hope everyone enjoyed visiting the classrooms and seeing the great work being done by the teachers and children. It was fabulous to see so many visitors in the classrooms. The whole school assembly provided an opportunity to celebrate principal award winners, recognise students who placed at the school athletics carnival and hear from past students who are now in school leadership positions at their high school. Cabrera. You all did an amazing job! A big thank you to Mrs Foreshew for organising this spectacular day!

A huge thank you to Mrs Kylie Farah and her team for operating the hugely successful book fair. The book fair required a great deal of liaising leading up to the day, preparation the night before and a huge commitment on the day. The generosity of our school community culminated with sales close to $16200 of which the school receives a commission. Thank you to the families who donated books to our school library. Your generosity of spirit is much appreciated. The theme of Education Week 2019 was ‘Every

Student, Every Voice’ ….I think our school represents

this theme in every way. We are an exciting, caring

and fun place to be. Student voice is nurtured,

modelled, scaffolded and taught in our classrooms

every day. Wattle Grove has a culture of high

expectations which empowers students to build a

sense of purpose, self–value and belonging.

We have dedicated and hardworking teachers and

support staff. I would like to take this opportunity to

publicly thank and acknowledge the School staff

including teachers, teaching support staff, school

learning Support Officers and administrative staff for

their commitment to our students and families.

I also congratulate the students of our school on their

conscientious effort to do their best and to promote

our school in their work and play. Thank you also to

all our parents and friends for you continued support.

I am proud to be part of such a wonderful school and

together, the staff and I, look forward to continuing

to work with all members of the community for the

benefit of our students.

Kindergarten Enrolments 2020 If you have a child starting Kindergarten in 2020, could you please ensure your online enrolment application has been completed and submitted to the school and that all supporting documents have been received. This supports our school planning for 2020.

Department of Education Revised Enrolment Policy Our school has increased enrolments to the point where we are reaching or exceeding a capacity to accommodate our students in permanent classrooms. The revised Department of Education Enrolment Policy implemented as of 22 July 2019, will have an impact on the manner in which we process non-local enrolments over coming years.

All students who reside within our local intake area will continue to be offered places at our school, however non-local enrolment applications can only be considered by schools that can accommodate new enrolments below their designated enrolment buffer level. A buffer is calculated by our school to allow the enrolment of local students who arrive throughout the year. The impact of this requirement is that our school may not be able to enrol non-local students from 2020. To assist with the transition to this new requirement it has been agreed that non-local siblings of current students will be permitted to enrol in 2020. As from 2021 the school may only be able to enrol local students. The school will continue to have a non-local application process in place to prioritise any applications that may be considered exceptional circumstances or for any places that may become available if the school enrolment falls below the designated cap. Please contact me if you wish to discuss these changes further.

Out and About To celebrate Science Week this week a small group of Year Four students attended the SciTech Challenge at Lucas HTS Public School and Year 2 students visited the Science Labs at Holsworthy High School.

Wattle Wanderers I had the privilege of attending the Stage 3 Camp this week. We had three jam packed days of exploration and learning. We visited so many exciting places which included Questacon, The War Memorial, Parliament House, Old Parliament House, The Australian Electoral Commission Education Centre, Telstra Tower, The Australian Institute of Sport and the National Arboretum. All the children were amazing and displayed great behaviour over the three days. They displayed a great interest in all the places visited, asking and answering many questions during tours. A huge thank you to Mrs Richter for her organisation of the camp and all the attending staff, Mrs Casdas, Mrs Robinson, Mrs Alderton, Mrs Atkins, Mr Wilson, Mrs Lazarevic and Mrs Garrett for attending and making this camp possible.

I received a lovely email today from a member of the public who wrote to express their thanks and appreciation as one of our student helped her child when we were at the Arboretum. This highlights how great our students are!

Ethics Coordinator Could you be the ethics coordinator for Wattle Grove Public School? Ethics classes commenced in our school in early 2018 and are currently available for students in Kindergarten through to Year 6. Our ethics coordinator, Elizabeth Samways, is unable to continue in the role and is looking to hand over the organisation of the program to a similarly motivated parent. The ethics coordinator communicates with school staff for classroom arrangements, organises the training and background checks for the teachers, and liaises with Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to design curriculum and training for the program. This role is essential for the ongoing viability of the ethics program and provides a great opportunity for a working parent to make a valuable contribution to our school. The time is flexible, requiring approximately 1-2 hours per week predominantly online, and would suit a good communicator with administrative, organisation and computer skills. If you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer and support the option of ethics classes at our school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au for further

information, or contact Elizabeth Samways at [email protected] or the Volunteering Manager, Maria McCarthy at [email protected] or 0410 348 574.

Stage 3 Canberra Camp What an absolutely jam packed adventure I was very proud to be a part of. We have had lots of fun and learning over the 3 days we were in Canberra.

Postings As you know it is posting time again. Many of you would already know if you will be moving at the end of the year. Please make sure you contact the office/classroom teacher and DSM to inform of students last day of school and where you will be moving to. This information is much appreciated by the school for further planning.
