AFL Fun! Last Tuesday K-2 students participated in an AFL session, where they were taken through a series of ball and skill activities relating to AFL. The students had a great time and were actively engaged in the session. Sessions like these not only support skill development but the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle. Thank you to Miss Kabrial for organising this event.

Riding to School Safely It is great to see so many students riding to school. This is a perfect way for our children to stay fit and healthy. Students must wear a helmet to and from school when riding their bike or scooter. We also encourage the children to ride at a safe pace on the footpath to ensure their own and other’s safety.

The Holsworthy Cup Challenge On Tuesday, Isabella, Nihal, Maise and Jayda represented Wattle Grove in the Holsworthy Cup Challenge. The challenge involved the children in a spelling bee and public speaking competition. They competed against Hammondville and Holsworthy and I am excited to announce that the students won this round, bringing home the Holsworthy Challenge Cup! A big congratulations to the team and thank you to Mrs Casdas and Mrs Richter for their organisation of this event.

Our Students are Super Kids! We were very excited to host our first Super Kids morning tea for 2019! It was great to celebrate and recognise the outstanding behaviour of the students. The children enjoyed a bag of goodies and being with their fellow winners. Congratulations to all our Super Kids for this month!

The Wattle Wanderers This week we had the opportunity to visit 2 Emerald, who were learning about sustainability. To enhance their understanding of sustainability, 2 Emerald built a worm farm! The students have already started collecting their fruit scraps to place in the worm farm. 2 Emerald will continue to look after for their worm farm and share their new learning with other classes.

Have a fabulous fortnight! Nicole Cameron Kylie Foreshew

Stewart House You would have received a small envelope asking for a donation to Stewart House. Stewart House is a public school which provides children with a much needed 12 day break from their current circumstance. The children are inspired to see beyond the present and to have real hope and positive aspirations for their future. Your donation helps to ensure that this program is accessible to all children in need from across NSW and ACT public schools and is used to cover direct costs only.

Ethics Classes Schools are required to provide meaningful activities for students whose parents have withdrawn them from special religious education. At WGPS, this includes the option of special education in ethics. In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, disagree respectfully and support their arguments with evidence, rather than act according to blind habit or peer pressure. Curriculum for special education in ethics is developed and implemented by an approved provider, Primary Ethics. Schools rely on volunteers to be trained in, and deliver ethics programs. If you are interested in being a volunteer and are available on Wednesday mornings, can you please make an appointment to see Miss

Cameron or email Elizabeth Samways ([email protected]).

Education Assistance Scheme DCO provides a range of services and resources for Defence children to assist with the transition between schools and education systems when a member is posted within Australia, and to provide support for the unique needs of Defence students.

Defence may reimburse fees for educational services external to the school. Students may be entitled to up to 14 weeks of tutoring in any subject that has been recommended by the school principal or the child’s teacher. This applies to primary and secondary students within the first 18 months of commencing at the new school.

Deployments and Absence Please make sure you let your child/ren’s classroom teacher or I know if a member of your family is away for an extended period of time. Having this knowledge will go towards supporting the student/s at school throughout the absence period.

RIDE2SCHOOL DAY Our annual Ride2School Day will be held on Friday 22nd March 2019. All children on wheels are

reminded to wear helmets. (This includes skaters and scooters). To guard the security of bikes/scooters

children are asked to leave them in the racks provided. When these fill up the children are allowed to

walk their mode of transport down the walkway and leave it in areas set aside for the day, which will

remain out of bounds all day. Thank you to Miss Stevens for your organisation.
