A Stage 6 syllabus typically includes a:

• Preliminary course

• HSC course

Year 11 students study the Preliminary course

Year 12 students study the HSC course

A unit of study refers to the hours of study contained in a course

• one unit courses contains 60 indicative hours in the Preliminary course (Year 11) and 60 indicative hours in the HSC (Year 12) course example English Extension I

• 2 unit courses contains 120 indicative hours in the Preliminary course (Year 11) and 120 indicative hours in the HSC (Year 12) course example English (Advanced)

• the majority of Stage 6 courses are 2 unit courses
