Dear Ladies – I hope you are all safe at shelter – We are experiencing challenges but with these challenges come great opportunities. I wanted to share my report that I had completed to report to our GFWC International Chair and also inform you that I know can attend any of your zoom meetings as a guest. Great thing about it – No gas expense and I promise to wear Make up.
1- “Healthy People, Healthy Planet “ -The GFWC Miami Springs Woman’s Club held its
4th Annual Free Health and Wellness Fair on January 26th 2019. They had over 40 presenters of
community health, wellness, and environmental initiates. Staffed tables full or resources and
give away were available, and ready to discuss programming and individual questions. 32 Club
members volunteered or donated food times, and 322 people signed in as attending from our
community. A vast area of health and wellness topics were covered, from pediatric patients to
seniors. Children local hospitals were represented with Free Bicycle Helmets and proper
fittings for every child, as well as a chance to win one of 10 bicycles. Child safety fingerprinting
from the State Attorney’s Office was performed. Local city health and wellness activates were
promoted such as our city’s youth sports events, yoga, and community pool programs. Our local
Police, Fire and Rescue Vehicles were all on site giving kids yours of their vehicles and talking
about their important work. A local children’s hospital allowing kids and adults to ‘Take 5” fruits
and vegetables for healthy eating; They packed weekend meal bags for children in need of food
to be delivered to our local schools. They had a K9 dog, and Seeing Eye Dogs through
Southeastern Guide Dogs for the Blind to visit. Flu shots and dental care were also provided. 2-“Pink Out Putnam, Again, Bigger and Better:” This event, which began in Welaka, is still
growing each year. The GFWC woman's clubs in Putnam County - Crescent City, Palatka, and
Welaka continue to find additional businesses to ask for donations and find new ways to increase
the number and type of fundraisers. They donate their proceeds to the Putnam First Cancer
Center. The first year they had a $5,000 donation, the second year, $10,000, and the third year,
$12,000. They continued with the successes they had last year which included "pinking out" and
"flocking" yards and businesses, selling pink items, bagging groceries for tips and holding a 5K
fun run/walk/golf cart event. The Woman's Club of Welaka held a BBQ event selling whole pork
butts and full slabs of pork ribs. The town again painted the steps of town hall pink, in honor of
Pink Out Putnam. They had two different events at Chilis, a restaurant in Palatka, where they
give a percentage of their sales for that day to Pink Out Putnam.The Club president made five
different presentations to the Welaka town council to update the town on the status of Pink Out
Putnam. In total they raised over $12,000 to give to Putnam Cancer Center. 3-“Relay for Life”- GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club, INC - Two brunches were served to
the cancer patients and caregivers of Hope Lodge/Moffitt
Cancer Research Hospital, a tradition continues. The Green Shirt Ladies prepared delicious breakfast breads and casseroles for brunch along with serving fruit, cookies, brownies, cakes, doughnuts, juices, coffee and tea. In addition to the food, a huge “Snack Attack” basket was left which was full of goodies for mid-night snacks and for

patients to take to early morning appointments. One of the artsy members always leaves a piece of artwork for the patients to enjoy when they are in the dining area. The “Quilt of Hope” for the 2020 Relay for Life is finished, and they kicked-off the fund-raising by having the quilt and donation opportunities at the 2019 Arts and Crafts Show the first weekend of December. The Home Life ladies manned the “Quilt of Hope” booth for 2 days.
4- “ Let’s get Pinned” – GFWC Nature Coast Woman’s Club -Partnered with their local
Juniorettes to make and deliver Lapel pins and corsages to their local Assisted Living
Facility. They made and deliver over 100 corsages and pins. This was a great experience
for the young ladies to learn about aging and longevity in today’s society.
5- “ Angels in Wedding Gowns “ – GFWC High Springs New Century Woman’s Club
met monthly during the year for a very sad but wonderful project. These ladies sewed
burial gowns and blankets for babies. The donated garments were processed, designed,
sewn, sorted, documented packaged and shipped to hospitals all thru out the state. The
ladies also crocheted, knitted and sewed blankets for funeral homes. They completed 900
hours in this loving, sad project and donated $500 dollars of in- kind donations. There
were 563 gowns and cocoons and 57 blankets made. There were given to 4 different
facilities.
6-“ The Giving Store “ -GFWC Grand Haven Woman’s Club – Collects gifts and holds
a rummage sale to collect money to operate this yearly store where School aged children
are able to select holiday gifts for family members free of charge – This year the giving
store took over $8,899 worth of gifts to The Agriculture Center for these children and
families to enjoy and have gifts during Christmas . 7-“SMART Ride “ – GFWC Coral Gables woman’s club – participated in this yearly 165 miles bike
ride from Miami to Key West by manning Pit stops along the way to provide snacks and water to
the riders – Every year it is a different theme and the ladies dress up in costumes for their pit
stops which start at 4:30 am to set up in each different points totaling 3 days of volunteering –
This year the club donated $3200 dollars’ worth for sponsors plus $600 in kind donations – This
year the total amount raised for AIDS prevention and treatment was $1,364,325. These ladies
volunteered over 484 hours in this project.
8-“Paint your Heart Out “ -The GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club Teamed up with The GFWC
Pinellas Juniorettes and their community partner Paint your Heart Out and they painted the
exterior of over 10 houses for low income and disabled Families. They also worked and
completed beautiful landscaping to these homes too to bring color and smiles to these families.
9-“ The Voice” GFWC Rotonda West Woman’s Club “ have their own singing group
The Tonettes” These ladies rehearse and are ready to bring cheer by song thru out the
year to so many organizations and facilities – The therapy of song and music has been
proven to have health benefits – These ladies visited Englewood Health and Rehab center
during St Patrick’s day. They also visited Brooksdale assisted facility and Heritage Oaks
Assisted facility. They traveled to Port Charlotte to entertain the residents of Lexington
Manor. In July they went to sing at Grand Villa home. Keep singing ladies!!!
10-“Children’s Pearly Smiles” – The GFWC Coral Gables woman’s club founded a
dental clinic for underprivileged children in 1939. The clinic provides free dental care to
low- income children in Miami-Dade County. They held several fundraising events this
year, a Halloween party for the community, a themed dinner gala and many other
smaller events raising over $18,000.. In addition, they applied and received 2 grants
totaling $35,000. All so they could see 591patients and provided $243,691 worth of free
dental care to these children. There are 3 dentist and 1 Hygienist.
