Thank you It has been an absolute privilege to serve as Principal, Deputy Principal, Head Teacher and teacher at Cobar High School. I began my teaching career at Ulladulla High School on the south coast. I never imagined when I was moved to Cobar, that my life and career would revolve for so many years around Cobar High. It is with excitement and some trepidation that I anticipate my retirement. It is always the people with whom you interact that makes any place special to you. I have strong memories and lasting friendships with many staff with whom I have worked over the years. There are some hilarious stories that still make me smile when I remember the incidents. Of course there were also some challenging times from which I learnt some valuable lessons and there are those people who supported and challenged me to be the best person I could be, in whatever role I was fulfilling. However the lifeblood of any school is the students. As a parent, one of the most exciting things is watching your child grow, develop and become adults. Teachers are in an absolute privileged position because we get to see and experience this many times over. There are always the high achievers that go on to do amazing things with their lives and I am very proud of those students. However, I am just as proud of those students who go on to make significant contributions through their employment, family or community life. Everyone makes mistakes, and those students who find the courage to make changes in their lives also fill me with pride. I get to see on a very regular basis the good things that the youth of Cobar are doing and I am confident that the students from Cobar High are very capable of looking after the future. There are many, past and present, staff, students, parents, community members and departmental staff who have been incredibly supportive in my career; too many to name but I appreciate all the help and support. My family has been an absolute rock and without their support I could not have achieved what I have done.

My one hope is that everyone involved with Cobar High will continue to strive for improvement every day. This will make my heart happy. I have absolutely loved my

time at Cobar High School and will certainly miss it. Sue Francisco

Outback Kitchen Rules

Last Wednesday our Year 9 and 10 Food Technology

students participated in the Outback Kitchen Rules as

part of the Healthy Outback Kids program. Students

were required to make dishes using a variety of

ingredients supplied by the program organiser Mick and

dietician Laura, who joined us from Bourke. The students

produced an amazing array of dishes including Butter

Chicken and Beef Fajitas. A big thanks to our judges, Ms

Dean, Mrs McIntyre and Stephanie Bastian and also to

Ms Thompon for organising this very exciting event.

Year 12 Hospitality

On Thursday 23rd June, 2016 Year 12 Hospitality students hosted a farewell

luncheon for our Principal, Sue Francisco. Students prepared and served a 2

course meal for 31 staff members. On our menu was Plum and Rosemary

Lamb Shanks and Chicken Duxelle with duchess potatoes. For dessert our

talented chefs served up White Chocolate Panna Cotta with Raspberry

Coulis and Sticky Date Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce. The class

demonstrated their range of practical skills and did an amazing job serving

the two courses in under half an hour.

Year 7 History

Students in Year 7 have been learning about Ancient China,

in History.

This week they studied Ancient Chinese Sport and

Recreation. 7HR had the opportunity to learn some Kung Fu

moves and as always, took to this with outstanding

enthusiasm. The photo above shows a few of the girls

showing off their stances, and flick kicks.

Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation.

Year 11 and 12 Sports, Lifestyle and Recreation students have been participating in a unit of Resistance

Training this term. They participated in a fitness class at the Cobar Youth and Fitness Centre, run by

personal trainer Kaitlyn Clark. Students enjoyed the class where they performed isometric exercises

with loaded bars, followed by a short yoga session.

Year 8 Science

This term, Year 8 has been learning about plant systems and why they are so essential to our lives.

Students in 8S and 8E recently participated in an experiment where they identified the location of

Xylem tubes in celery stems. By placing the celery in a beaker of coloured water overnight, students

discovered that not only could they see the Xylem tubes, which carry water and minerals throughout

the plant, it also dyed the leaves of the celery too! This is a colourful, fun and easy experiment you

might want to complete at home! You can use plants such as celery, lettuce, and white petal flowers.
