Don't Hold Your Breath J ayasri Twins - Rohitha and Rohan - who were involved in the Cricket World Cup song, "Lion Nation," along with Iraj, will be in Colombo again, in April, 2011, for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations. Their last trip to Colombo was for the festive peri- od (December, 2010/January, 2011), and they were involved in several gigs. Rohitha went on to say that Dec- Jan. was very busy period for them. "We did a lot of live shows around the island and also met up with friends, and music fans. And we also spent quite a lot of enjoyable moments with our family mem- bers." He also indicated that both their live reggae open air concerts, at Hikkaduwa and Aluthgama, were packed, with foreigners and locals. "We were, in a way, surprised - mostly about the heavy percentage of tourist fans and how they really enjoyed singing our own Sinhala original songs of Jayasri during the concerts. "Some of them had arranged their holiday sched- ules, especially to be in Sri Lanka during our con- certs." The Jayasri Twins plan to put together the music video for their newly released Sinhala tracks, "Duru ratata giya" and "Thatudenawado," next month (April). There are also other collaboration which they intend work- ing on when they are in Colombo in April. In Europe, Jayasri are doing many prestigious events, including the United Nations IAEA Ball at Hofburg Palace (for the third consecutive third year), and also the popular Refugees Ball (Fluechtlings Ball), in Vienna, Austria. C anadian rocker, Bryan Adams, who was featured in a mammoth concert in Sri Lanka, in 2004, is hoping one of his high- profile peers puts together plans for another Live Aid to help the earthquake and tsunami survivors in Japan. Adams was a part of 1985's Live Aid super gig and has since performed at a number of big-name charity concerts - and he's waiting to get the call to be part of a show to help raise funds for relief in Japan. He says, "I'm wondering when someone is going to put something together for Japan... It would be great if the rock community got together for Japan because Japan has given so much to all the rockers over the years. Everybody has spent time there." Japan was hit by a devastating earthquake and tsunami early this month. Jet Harris' manager slams Sir Cliff The manager of Jet Harris has slammed Sir Cliff Richard for failing to offer financial help to The Shadows star as he battled throat can- cer. The "Bachelor Boy" hitmaker paid tribute to his former bassist after his death on Friday, 18th, 2011, but Peter Stockton has reportedly branded Sir Cliff a "b**ody hypocrite" following his words of condo- lence. Harris' manager accuses the 70-year- old of passing up the opportunity to cover bills for his pal's medical treat- ment and admits he's "very angry" about the apparent snub. He said, "This man is meant to be a born-again Christian and humanitari- an, but he's just a b**ody hypocrite. Cliff was contacted 18 months ago, by a friend of Jet, named Audrey, about Jet's cancer. "She explained that Jet didn't have the necessary funds to get specialist treatment and wondered if Cliff might be able to be of assistance in some way or other. It wasn't a direct request for cash although I suppose the intima- tion was there... Audrey just got a letter back saying something like, 'I'm sorry to hear about Jet, I suggest that he contact the MACmillan can- cer (charity) people for help.' It wasn't even signed by Cliff, but instead by someone in his office, which is absolutely disgusting." R ight now, ex-Friends, Marlon Amarasekera, is in Colombo, operating as Rebirth. It's a duo setup which he does with his partner, Janka, who is from Slovakia. It's a good scene, according to Marlon, but he is now keen to expand. "As Rebirth, we have done pretty well in Europe, but I want something bigger." And something bigger, as Marlon sees it, is a four/five- piece band. "What I have in mind is not just another outfit that will get on stage and do what most others are doing. No, that's not my style." Marlon wants to introduce, to the local showbiz scene, a show band. "Yes, I'm working hard on putting together an outfit that WILL entertain - a band that will light up the stage with their act and performance." But getting the right guys to fulfill his ambition is not that easy. "There are plenty of talented guys in the scene here, but not many are outgoing - the kind I'm looking for. "I want guys who will not only stand out as musicians, but also to excel in showmanship." Although Marlon is based in Switzerland, he wants to oper- ate in Sri Lanka with his show band "Having been here for quite a long while, performing with Rebirth in Colombo, I believe there is plenty of opportunity, in the local showbiz scene, for a real good show band to shine. And I want to make that happen." Marlon is working methodically towards his goal and we are bound to see the results sooner than later.
