WHAT WE ARE LEARNING TODAY

• Snap beans are also

known as green beans or

string beans.

• They are a member of the

legume family, just like

black beans and

chickpeas.

• Fresh snap beans

should be crisp and

“snap” in half.

Snap beans are mainly

grown in Miami-Dade and

Palm Beach counties.

However, they are

also grown in

Alachua, Bradford,

Hendry and Suwannee

counties.

planted in the late

summer and spring.

They are available from

October through May.

Corn, beans and squash are called the Three Sisters because when they are planted

together they each provide the other with something important, making all three

thrive. Native Americans always planted these crops together.

to grow up.

BeansBeans, a plant-based protein source, provides the

corn and squash with nutrients like nitrogen.

growing.
