HOLY WEEK 2021

This Sunday, called Palm Sunday (or Passion Sunday), is the first day of Holy Week, and there are two Gospels proclaimed at today’s Mass. The first Gospel, proclaimed before the procession with palms, tells of Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. Riding on a borrowed colt, Jesus was hailed by the crowds as they blessed God and shouted “Hosanna!” This event is reported in each of the four Gospels. At the Liturgy of the Word on Palm Sunday, the events of Jesus’ passion are proclaimed in their entirety. In Lectionary Cycle B (which we are in), we read the passion of Jesus as found in Mark’s Gospel. We will hear these events proclaimed again when we celebrate the Triduum later in the week. On Good Friday, we will read the passion of Jesus from the Gospel of John. During this Holy Week, let us prayerfully remember the events of Jesus’ passion and death. As we meditate on the cross, let us think about what it means to make the statement of faith that Jesus is God’s Son.

Este domingo, llamado Domingo de Ramos (o Domingo de Pasión), es el primer día de Semana Santa, y hay dos Evangelios proclamados en la misa de hoy. El primero, proclamado antes de la procesión con palmas, habla de la entrada triunfal de Jesús en Jerusalén. Montado en un burrito, Jesús fue aclamado por la multitud mientras bendijeron a Dios gritando “¡Hosanna!” Este acontecimiento se relata en cada uno de los cuatro Evangelios. En la Liturgia de la Palabra del Domingo de Ramos, los acontecimientos de la pasión de Jesús se proclaman en su totalidad. En el Ciclo Leccionario B (en el que estamos), leemos la pasión de Jesús tal como se encuentra en el Evangelio de Marcos. Escucharemos estos acontecimientos proclamados de nuevo cuando celebremos el Triduo más adelante en la semana. El Viernes Santo leeremos la pasión de Jesús según San Juan. Durante esta Semana Santa, recordemos con oración los acontecimientos de la pasión y muerte de Jesús. Al meditar en la cruz, pensemos en lo que significa hacer la declaración de fe de que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios.

begin reading the Bible, but don't know where to start? Here is your chance! Beginning on Monday evening, April 12th at 5:15 PM, we will run the Quick Journey through the Bible at Faith Formation Office, lower level. It is an 8 week course of DVD, discussion, and home study.
