Directives For Lent I. Days of Penance in the United States
—Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of absti-
nence from meat and also days of fast: that is, limited
to a single full meal.
—The other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence
from meat.
—The Fridays of the year outside Lent remain days of
penance, but each individual may substitute for the
traditional abstinence from meat some other practice
of voluntary self-denial or personal penance; this may
be physical mortification or temperance or acts of re-
ligion, charity or Christian witness.
II. Those Bound to Fast and Abstain
—All those who are 14 years old are bound by the law
of abstinence throughout their lifetime. The law of
fast binds all who are 18 years old until they begin
their 60th year.
Reconciliation During Lent Father Mark and Father Peter will be hearing confes-
sions on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 until 8:00
PM, in the Church.
Confessions, as normal, will also be heard on Satur-
days at 4:00 PM. Come celebrate the Sacrament of
God’s mercy!
Stations of the Cross Please join us for the Stations
of the Cross during Lent on
Fridays. The dates are March 3
through April 7 at 5:00 PM in
the Church.
Lent has begun. You will find numerous choices of
reflection booklets, pamphlets and CDs in the gather-
ing space for your use during the season. You might
also like to subscribe for free to Dynamic Catholic’s
daily email challenge; sign up at
www.BestLentEver.com You are invited to pray the
Stations of the Cross each Friday evening at 5 PM.
Rice Bowls, Catholic Relief Service’s Lenten program
to alleviate local and international poverty, can be
found in the gathering space and at the doors. Rice
Bowl offers an ideal opportunity for practicing the
three Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting, and alms-
giving in one effort. Have a prayerful and growthful
Lent!
First Communion Preparation—One of our
Lenten disciplines is prayer. You can practice interces-
sory prayer by adopting one of our 2nd
graders who
are preparing for their First Communion on April 30.
Prayer partner forms are in the gathering space.
Thank you for encouraging them and helping them to
feel the congregation’s love for them.
Interested in exploring Catholicism? Since
Christmas, 10 adults have expressed interest in ex-
ploring Catholicism through the RCIA process. Soon
we plan to begin meeting every 4-6 weeks until a new
group begins in August. If you’d like to join us, please
contact Therese Carroll-Caruso at 897-5207 or

Divorce and Its Impact on Families and
Children
Holy Trinity Parish’s Olive Branch Divorce Ministry will
sponsor an evening seminar, "Divorce: The Impact on
Families and Children” on Wednesday, March 22 at
6:30 p.m. (meet and greet); 7-9 p.m. (presentation).
This event will be held at Spalding University’s Egan
Leadership Center, 901 S. Fourth Street. (Adjacent
parking is available.) Dr. Loren Townsend, PhD, MDiv.
and Dr. Leslie Smith Townsend PhD, LMFT will speak
at the seminar. Two staff from the Archdiocese of
Louisville - Dr. Pat Norris, Associate Director of the
Metropolitan Tribunal and Deacon Stephen Bowling,
Director of Family Ministries - also will be available to
answer general and individual questions. This event is
free and open to the public, and no advance registra-
tion is necessary.
Dr. Loren Townsend is an ordained minister in the
American Baptist Church (USA). He is the Director of
the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Louis-
ville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Diplomate
in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors
(AAPC), an approved supervisor by the American As-
sociation for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)
and a licensed marriage and family therapist. Dr. Les-
lie S. Townsend is a pastoral counselor and a licensed
marriage and family therapist. She has more than 30
years counseling experience working in agencies, hos-
pitals, private practice, and churches.
Holy Trinity Parish’s Olive Branch is a faith-based par-
ish ministry for those who have experienced divorce
and are seeking new friendships and horizons. The
program provides a welcoming atmosphere focusing
on restoring peace, reclaiming joy, and practicing for-
giveness.
Pope Francis recently recommended adding
another Corporal Work of Mercy: Care for Creation. It
was my hope to follow up the Year of Mercy with
some ideas to implement Pope Francis’ encyclical on
creation, so it looks as though I was right on target! If
you have a passion for living a green life and steward-
ing the resources of our earth, please contact Therese
Carroll-Caruso at [email protected] or 502-897-
5207.
Being Good Neighbors!
We are such an active parish! And that, is a good
thing! At those events, where we find the parking lot
is overflowing, let‘s remember to be good neighbors!
When parking on the side streets, please remember
to only park on one side of the street (we want fire
trucks to be able to pass) and avoid parking any
wheels in our neighbor’s yard-park all four wheels on
the street. Thank you!

your loved ones. It is a nice way to stay connected
on one’s birthday, wedding anniversary or anniversary
of their death. Please note that on certain holidays,
we will be having multiple Mass intentions for that
Mass. The customary stipend is $10 per Mass. Please
consider this wonderful way of remembering your
