FROM THE DESK OF THE ADMINISTRATOR

With all the recent early bulletin deadlines, I want to call your attention to the bulletin insert the other week that really had no explanation with it regarding a change to our grouping. How about a bit of context? About three months ago, I was called to a meeting at the Dioce-san Offices to talk about the designation of a new group-ing to encompass St. Nicholas Parish, St. Anthony Chapel, St. Patrick Church in the Strip, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Polish Hill. It is an attempt to provide a bet-ter means of historic preservation for these buildings. In addition, there is hope that they could work in conjunc-tion with each other to help advertise the others. In the process of St. Nicholas leaving us, I asked about St. Alo-ysius Parish, Reserve Township, joining us. The sugges-tion was well received by both the Diocese and SAP – welcome to new abbreviations! I’m still not sure about the timing and how this will affect our Mass schedule. To my knowledge, this new clergy team does not include any of our clergy. So, stay tuned for developments as they happen! Today we congratulate the Second Graders in Mill-vale and Etna who will be coming to the Eucharistic Ta-ble for the first time at the 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM Masses today. The children at SBP are receiving their First Communion during the next two Sundays, 5 and 12 May, at special 12:30 PM Masses. First Communion is a big deal, isn’t it? The young people are always so well dressed and excited. What a great experience they will have today! Right? Yet as they come to the table, it should make us ask how excited are we about the Eucharist? Do we realize what a gift it is? Do we sometimes take the Eucharist for granted? In our world of “on demand”, I think we have forgot-ten the value of the Eucharist as Christ’s greatest, per-petual gift to us. He gives us His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity through His suffering and death. How special this gift is! It is freely offered to us. Yet what sacrifice are we willing to make in return to Him? What lengths will we go to receive the Eucharist? Like that old silly commercial jingle, “What would you do for a Klondike Bar?” What are you willing to do to receive Him? Again, how impor-tant is the Eucharist for you? Some food for thought, isn’t it?

See you in Church! Fr. Jim Gretz

PEACE BE WITH YOU When Jesus appears to his Apostles after his res-urrection from the dead he bestowed upon them the gift they needed most: his peace. The Apos-tles were afraid. Their master and teacher, Jesus, had been betrayed by one of them, arrested and

brutally killed by crucifixion and they were terrified that they would meet the same fate, and soon. Yet, this peace was not an invitation to sit back and relax. Instead, this peace is followed by the request of Jesus, “as the Father has sent me, so I send you,” and the sharing of the gift of the Holy Spirit so that the Apostles can begin to go out and continue the mission of Christ in the world. As we continue to celebrate Easter and the gift of new life in the resurrection, we are at peace knowing that we need no longer fear sin or death. At the same time, we are called, like the Apos-tles, to fulfill the mission of Jesus through the Church. This is the call of On Mission for The Church Alive! that continues in earnest. May the Lord bestow his grace and peace upon us so that we may be willing to work hard to enliven our parishes and grow the Church. Visit onmissionchur-chalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.
