Alleluia! It is through faith that our sadness turns to joy today. “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad.” Easter, a time when we offer God’s peace to everyone, a time of unity, not fear.

Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd. You know each of us

and you call us by name to serve in faith. Help us respond generously to your voice.

Give courage and guidance to those you call to the priesthood and the diaconate,

to religious life and lay ministry, so they may respond wholeheartedly

and serve devotedly. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

First Eucharist Practices – Monday and Tuesday, April 24 and April 25. Mandatory attendance for our second grade students only on both days from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Church. Parents need not attend. Registration forms have been mailed out to registered families in the program. Registration forms for incoming first graders or families new to the area may be obtained from the Religious Education Office (at the school 769-0030 x 123), from the Rectory Office or in the vestibule of the Church. Please include a copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate for new and first grade children. Catechists are still needed for the 2017-2018 Religious Education school year. We are still in need of practicing Catholics that have received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation). Please consider volunteering for the afternoon sessions of the 2017-2018 Religious Education school year (September-May) on Wednesdays for grades 3 and 6 and on Thursdays for grades 4& 5 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Please email us at the Religious Education office, hrreligioused@live.com, or call 769-0030 x 123/124. We offer training for new Catechists. It is required by the Archdiocese of New York to complete a background check and view a Safer Spaces training video in conjunction with the Protection of God’s Children policy.

Your presence enriches us in our celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection. May it be a continuous enrichment the whole year through!

We offer a special word of welcome to those who have completed their Christian initiation and have been received into the Church. As the joy of the Resurrection renews the whole world, your reception into the Church is a living witness to that renewal. Welcome!

2017 JULIUS AUCELLO SCHOLARSHIP The Knights of Columbus St. Dominic Council #4399 is going to award a scholarship to a practicing Roman Catholic high school senior who will be starting college in September 2017.The scholarship is available to students who reside in Mt. Pleasant. The award is extended to students of public or private high schools. The deadline for applying is May 5, 2017. Information and applications are available at high school guidance offices. ANNUAL GOLDEN WEDDING JUBILEE MASS

AT SAINT PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL

Couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime during 2017 are invited to attend the Annual Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass with Cardinal Dolan at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, Sunday, June 11th, at

2:00pm. Pre-registration is required. Please call the Rectory as soon as possible so that we can reserve seats (total of three tickets per couple) for you. The closing date to register for the Mass is Friday, May 12, 2017. This event is sponsored by the Family Life + Respect Life Office of the Archdiocese of NY. If you can not attend the Mass but would like to receive a certificate from the Archdiocese, please call the Rectory. We will send the Archdiocese the following information: your first and last names, mailing address, and date of wedding.

Easter . . . This is the day the Lord has made! The Father welcomes us home, like the prodigal son, by spreading a banquet before us and by robing us in finery. Even our chocolate bunnies and jelly beans can offer a sweet taste of our homecoming in the promised land. Eggs are emblems of the tomb,

which today has been shattered like an eggshell. Their rainbow colors remind us of the covenant with Noah, of God’s promise made to all creatures on earth. The game of egg-rolling reminds us of the stone being rolled away from the entrance to the grave. An egg hunt is a customary way to celebrate the search of the women who came to the tomb to anoint the Body of the Lord. The bright angel asked them, “Why do you search for the Living One among the dead? Christ is Risen!” Lent’s 40 days of penance are past. Today we begin “the fifty days of Easter,” seven weeks plus a day - a “week of weeks” from now until the festival of Pentecost.
