STEWARDSHIP LIFESTYLE “My God will supply whatever you need…”
- - PHILIPPIANS 4:19
God really does provide for those who are grateful and generous. This is very difficult for people that don’t live a Stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skeptical and say it’s just coincidence. If you are skeptical, try living a Stewardship lifestyle for just one month – be generous with your gifts of time, talent and treasure and see how God provides for your needs.

With Sincere With Sincere
Dear Parishioners,
Last week I never got the chance to put my weekly message into the church bulletin. As I shall explain, there was a very, very good reason for this.
On Tuesday morning after I ate some early breakfast, I prepared to concelebrate the 9AM daily Mass. However, sometime before Mass I began to experience severe chest pains. It was as if someone were standing on my chest making it hard to breathe. The pain shot down my left arm. I was nauseous. I sat on my bed at the rectory thinking that I might be having a heart attack. I had the classic symptoms. I popped a couple baby aspirin into my mouth and sent a text message downstairs to the parish secretary. She immediately came upstairs to help me.
To make a long story short, 9-1-1 was called, the ambulance arrived, an EKG was taken and I was quickly on my way to the hospital. When I arrived at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Camden, I was taken to the heart catherization lab. There they discovered that two of my arteries were 100% blocked and the doctors proceeded to place three stents strategically in those arteries after they were re-opened.
It all happened so rapidly. I was in and out of consciousness. I remember some of the conversations going on, but not everything.
Subsequently, one of the doctors informed me that there was no major heart damage despite the blockages. Thanks be to God! I was back to the rectory by Thursday evening and once again concelebrated daily Mass the next day.
I am a very fortunate man. There is a history of heart problems in my family. My father died of a heart attack at 64. Both his parents died in a similar manner at 62. One of my younger brothers had a heart attack last year at 52. Like me, he survived it. Need I go on?
Incidentally, I have faced my mortality several times in my life. I almost drowned in the Atlantic Ocean, twice. I could have been killed or seriously injured in a couple of nearly-averted car accidents—one of which saw my car spin out-of-control a full 360 degrees on black ice on a two-lane highway.
Believe it or not, I try to be super cautious. I see my doctors regularly. I have my blood work done every three months. My cholesterol and blood sugar are under control. I had been losing weight, walking and exercising at the gym. Nobody, including me, saw this coming. Except God, of course!
I thought of one of Jesus’ parables after all of this happened: Then [Jesus] told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’ And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’ Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.” (Luke 12: 16-21)
Truth be told, I do not really fear death itself. What I fear is not being right with God when I die. How important it is to be in the state of grace! We are given many tools to assist us: Confession, the Mass and Holy Eucharist, the Sacrament of the Sick, etc. Take advantage of them before it is too late! One never knows.
Hopefully, I’ll be around for many years to come. There is no absolute certainty, however. All I can do is go on faithfully serving the Lord, while trusting in His merciful love. Thank you Lord for some more time!

40 DAYS FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN NOW THROUGH NOVEMBER 5TH
We will pray and fast for women in danger of undergoing an abortion, for abortion clinic workers and for the healing of men and women suffering from past abortions. We will maintain a peaceful, prayerful presence from 7AM until 7PM each day at the local abortion facility, the Cherry Hill Women's Center, located at 502 N. Kings Highway.
Through prayer and penance we “Rescue those who are un-justly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die.”(Proverbs 24:11)
With God's help, these are the proven results in 20 coordinated international campaigns:
-13,305 babies saved from abortion -154 abortion workers converted -86 abortion centers closed
Here is Pope Francis’ endorsement: “The Holy Father greatly appreciates the dedicated work that you and everyone involved in 40 Days for Life are engaged in to promote respect for the lives of all unborn children. His Holiness assures you of his prayerful support for you, your colleagues and all those whose prayer, fasting and sacrifices are saving countless lives and giving glory to God.”

RACISM IS A PRO LIFE ISSUE Our faith calls us to respect and protect every human life—from its very beginning to its very end, and at every moment in be-tween. Protecting human life also requires us to protect the dig-nity of each person, regardless of race, physical condition, age or stage of life. Tragically, people often are not treated with the respect that their human dignity requires.
Racism and attacks on human life are two forms of this evil, and they often manifest together. Racially motivated assault is one clear example. Other examples include abortion and assisted suicide; although they strike at human life regardless of race, racial minorities are at even greater risk of being abandoned to these acts of violence. Abortion facilities are typically located in neighborhoods with large racial minority populations. These populations already face disproportionate challenges accessing quality medical care throughout life, and they are at higher risk than others at the end of life of experiencing pressure to take lethal drugs where assisted sui-cide is legalized.
May Jesus Christ, who conquered sin and death, help us build a culture of life where everyone is cherished.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION/SPIRITUAL COMPANION Father Ed’s Sunday letter on September 17th and his comments on his retreat at the Abbey of the Genesee were quite profound. As a Catholic layman, I had the privilege of attending such retreats in the past that helped my everyday life in the world.
Even though most of us are not called to be monks, I believe the Holy Spirit has given us ways to live deeply, Spirit-centered lives even in the midst of our hectic demands. I have found that Spiritual Direction, or some call it, Spiritual Companioning, to be just such a process. I have found the experience to be so beneficial personally, that I decided to participate in two-year Certification Program in Spiritual Direction at the Upper Room Spiritual Life Center in Neptune NJ.
What is Spiritual Direction? It is a graced ministry in which one person accompanies another in the process of growing in intimacy with God. It is not counseling. The primary focus of spiritual direction is one’s life of prayer and one’s relationship with God.
As the formation program at the Upper Room moves forward for me this year, I will need to meet with a few directees for spiritual direction. If you feel drawn to this understanding of spiritual direction, if you feel drawn to a deeper spiritual life, give me a call to meet for an initial conversation and discuss mutual expectations. There is no financial charge for this. Contact Jerry Washko: Cell: 856-304-0381; Home 856-845-6944
