Latina Project Thank You

The Latina Project, an outreach by the women of Holy

Martyrs and our sister parish, La Sagrada Familia,

provides a meal once a month during a support

meeting for women who are survivors of domestic

violence.

The turnout for the December Latina Project meal was

wonderful. There were plenty of food bags for the

women and they were so thrilled with those and the

bag of gifts.

Many hugs and thank you’s from the women to all

who contributed to make this possible.

There will be no meals prepared for January and

February as there is Martin Luther King Day in January

and Presidents’ Day in February. The monthly Latina

Project meals will resume in March.

Eucharist Retreat Coming in January

Our second graders and their parents will attend a

Eucharist Retreat together in late January. This retreat

is an opportunity for parents to come away from their

busy lives and share one on one with their children

the origin of the Eucharist and why it needs to be part

of our weekly spiritual growth.

We need to put on the armor of the Eucharist to get

through the week’s temptations, anxiety, stress and

disappointments. Jesus broke bread throughout his

three years of ministry, and this emphasizes why we

need to share the Eucharist and our everyday stories

of which Jesus is a part.

Protecting God’s Children

For three weeks every January, our HMKids

students in grades 1-6 learn skills that help them

protect themselves from child molesters. Children

are taught how to recognize boundary violations

that precede abuse, remove themselves from

uncomfortable situations and tell a trusted adult

when someone has crossed a boundary.

Praesidium developed a curriculum with age-

appropriate lessons for each grade level.

The Diocese of Cleveland requires that these

skills be taught every year to children in grades

1-8. SPIRIT students (grades 7 and 8) will receive

this training in January as well.

This training for children is the “other arm of

Virtus”, which educates adults about what to

watch for when they see adults interacting

with children.

"We are the people of the Eucharist. Always

remember who you are."

— Allen Hunt, The Turning Point

A Note to Parents

If your child needs to leave the worship area during

Mass, please escort him or her. We want your

children to be safe. On weekends, think of your

church as you would any public place where you

would keep track of where your child is and who he

or she is around.

Please Bring in Last Year's Palms

Please bring in your palms from last year's Palm

Sunday in January and February. We will be

teaching HMKids students how we burn last year's

palms for ashes to use on Ash Wednesday. There

will be receptacles at all the doors of the church

for you to place the palms in upon arrival. Palms

are needed by Feb. 23.

Serve With A Heart Like Jesus

Opportunities to serve will continue throughout

2020. Please consider how you can contribute. Many

hands make light work.

Here are some examples of ways students can serve:
