HOLY FAMILY REGIONAL SCHOOL JESUS CHRIST IS THE REASON FOR OUR SCHOOL Wednesday, May 30, 2018 Issue 17 Dear Parents, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your partnership and prayers this past school year. As the principal of Holy Family Regional School, I am grateful for the many dedicated families that provide a welcoming community and a spirit of friendship and love. It is through this spirit that we witness and experience a holy community that is dedicated to follow Gods call while inspiring children to attain their full potential. This is the living mission of Holy Family Regional School! Two weeks ago, the administration, faculty and staff celebrated the school year by gathering for our year-end dinner. This dinner has become an annual event where we assemble in friendship to cel- ebrate our year and honor those who are leaving. This year we bid a fond farewell to Miss Martha Ball, Ms. Terri Hollinger, and Mrs. Cathy Smigiel who will be retiring from Catholic education. To- gether these women have served Holy Family and the Archdiocese of Detroit for over 80 years! We send them off with our prayers, love, blessing and gratitude for their dedication to Holy Family and our children. We will also bid a fond farewell to the following teachers and staff members– Mrs. Heather Mack, Mrs. Jenny Moening, Ms. Michal Smelser, and Mrs. Hong Lu. We wish this group many blessings as they pursue new ventures. I would also like to keep you informed of some staffing changes for the upcoming school year. The following teachers will be taking on new positions in the fall: Mrs. Michelle Lajiness will be joining the middle school team at South Campus Mrs. Hala Abboo will be joining the kindergarten team Mrs. Tina Holliday and Mrs. Teriza Girgis will move to the South Campus playground/lunchroom team These staffing changes leave some openings at Holy Family. We are still in the process of filling these open positions with new faculty or internal moves. I know that God will place the perfect can- didate in each position to minister to our children and our school community. As we head into the last weeks of school I would like to remind you of some upcoming events. HOLY FAMILY REGIONAL SCHOOL JESUS CHRIST IS THE REASON FOR OUR SCHOOL

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 Issue 17

Dear Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your partnership and prayers this past school year. As the principal of Holy Family Regional School, I am grateful for the many dedicated families that provide a welcoming community and a spirit of friendship and love. It is through this spirit that we witness and experience a holy community that is dedicated to follow God’s call while inspiring children to attain their full potential. This is the living mission of Holy Family Regional School!

Two weeks ago, the administration, faculty and staff celebrated the school year by gathering for our year-end dinner. This dinner has become an annual event where we assemble in friendship to cel-ebrate our year and honor those who are leaving. This year we bid a fond farewell to Miss Martha Ball, Ms. Terri Hollinger, and Mrs. Cathy Smigiel who will be retiring from Catholic education. To-gether these women have served Holy Family and the Archdiocese of Detroit for over 80 years!

The following teachers will be taking on new positions in the fall:

Mrs. Michelle Lajiness will be joining the middle school team at South Campus

Mrs. Hala Abboo will be joining the kindergarten team

Mrs. Tina Holliday and Mrs. Teriza Girgis will move to the South Campus

playground/lunchroom team

These staffing changes leave some openings at Holy Family. We are still in the process of filling these open positions with new faculty or internal moves. I know that God will place the perfect can-didate in each position to minister to our children and our school community.

As we head into the last weeks of school I would like to remind you of some upcoming events.

May 24, 2018 Dear Parents, This is an IMPORTANT NOTICE regarding a change in the pick-up/drop-off procedures at North Campus. The St. Andrew Church expansion project will begin on June 4th. As part of the construction project, initial underground work will require closure of the north entrance and parking lot of the church, as well as closure of the east parking lot behind the church. The closure of these lots will require new temporary drop-off/ and pick-up procedures at the North Campus – as well as parking changes during the construction. NEW PARKING PROCEDURES Beginning Wednesday, May 30, a large section of the north campus parking lot will be roped off and closed throughout the day. These parking spaces are to remain vacant in preparation for the bus staging which will take place at the end of the day. Where is parking permitted?

• Staff parking will be relocated to the south side (back of the school).

• Parent and Visitor parking will be available along the grassy mall (by the bell tower) and in the lot between the church and the parish center. Handicap parking will be available during the day in the small lot by the school entrance.

MORNING DROP-OFF There are a few changes to the morning drop-off procedures:

• Cars and buses must all enter the same south drive (the north drive will be closed).

• Cars and buses will unload using the current procedures.

• New: All cars must turn right after dropping off students, drive around the back of the school, and exit the south drive turning left (south). Cars will not be permitted to turn right.

• You will notice that buses will turn left to exit the parking lot.

• It is critical that all cars follow the flow to keep the traffic moving. Parents who wish to park and walk students into the school, must enter the car line, turn left with the buses, and park along the grassy mall. We encourage you to limit this if possible for the last weeks of school.

AFTERNOON PICK-UP If you are picking up North Campus students only:

• Students will be dismissed to the back of the school at 3:30pm.

• Two lines will form behind the school for pick-up. Please note on the diagram provided that the outside lane will loop into the AB parking lot. This will allow room for additional cars.

• Cars exiting onto Inglewood must turn left and go south on Inglewood If you are picking up North Campus student and a Shuttle Rider:

• North Campus students will not exit building until all shuttles have arrived from South.

• Cars will enter the small lot in front of the school and will stage on the north side of the school building (where students previously stood waiting for shuttles)

• Once all shuttles have arrived, students will be dismissed from the school building and from the shuttle buses to the cars.

• Cars exiting the shuttle bus area are to turn right and exit behind the school.

Jesus Christ is the Reason for Holy Family Regional School

In order to make this transition happen, we will begin to implement these changes in phases next week. Wednesday, May 30-

• Staff Parking Change

• Visitor Parking Change

• Morning Drop-Off Change

• Afternoon Pick-Up Two Lanes behind school Thursday, May 31

• Shuttle Staging Area Begins Monday, June 4

• North Church Lot Closed

• One Bus Wave with all Buses Staging in Front Lot Obviously, we request your patience as we work through these temporary procedure changes. The construction project will result with a new gathering area at St. Andrew as well as a new drop-off loop at the North Campus which will be a wonderful blessing for school! Yours in Christ,

Mr. Jon Myers Principal

Summertime! What a wonderful year it has been, but it is hard to believe it is coming to an end. As we say farewell to our 8th graders, we pray these youth know that God will always be by their side. May they also have the courage to tell others about their own relationship with Christ. God bless all of you precious children of God.

You may have great plans for your family this summer or you may be thinking about how to take advantage of some wonderful quality time.

Your child is used to beginning their day in prayer and they are used to attending at least one daily Mass in the week (and hopefully Sunday Liturgy as well at your own church ☺). He/She is used to at least thirty minutes of day (and up to near fifty for your older children) of religious study…what a gift if they kept even a little of this going this summer. Your child is asked often to reflect on their day. He/She is encouraged to ponder the happy things that happened, as well as conflicts, and try to figure out how to recognize God’s blessings in all while resolving any conflicts. Please help him/her to continue this. Help your child to end their summer day in a thanksgiving prayer to our Heavenly Father.

If you are seeking some fun activities here are a few links to explore. Please know I do not endorse any one in particular but am simply offering some ideas…some may not be “Catholic” but certainly offer great ideas!
