Holy Family Parishioners:
This weekend Holy Family Parish will be holding a free
concert open to all parishioners on Sunday, October
18
th
at 3:00pm at SJB. We’re very excited to be able to
offer this performance since so much of the music
ministry has been on hold since March. It will be
wonderful when we’re allowed to assemble our choirs
together again, but for now, we wanted to organize a
musical event for the parish that is within the
parameters of current restrictions.
The concert will consist of a variety of performers and
musical styles. Andrija Andelic, one of the music
directors for our grouping, will play two piano
selections, one by Rachmaninoff, a romantic period
composer, and the other by Vasilije Mokranjac, a 20
th
century Serbian composer. Andrija will also accompany
Rhian Kenny, a flutist from the Pittsburgh Symphony
Orchestra. Together, they will perform two flute-piano
duets.
The Holy Family Handbell Choir is a bell choir that
originated at St. John the Baptist in 2007. I took over
the direction of the bell choir in 2008 when I became
the music director for St. John. However,
since the merging of our five churches, one
of my goals has been to blend the bell choir
with ringers from our other churches to truly
make the choir a grouping-wide ensemble. I
would love to hear from anyone that may be interested
in joining us! If you don’t know much about a handbell
choir come and check us out at the concert or watch
the livestream video. You’ll hear many different
handbell ringing techniques throughout both pieces that
show off the range and capability of sound for the
instrument.
Angelo Ragghianti, a Verona native, has been a cantor
at St. John and St. Joseph since he was eleven and
has since graduated from Carnegie Mellon University
with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance
degree. Angelo will be singing Ave Maria and another
selection that is a fusion of opera and musical theatre.
I’ll accompany Angelo’s pieces, as well as play a
couple of solo organ selections. The first piece is a
Prelude and Fugue by J. S. Bach and the other is a
French organ work by Henri Mulet, which should shake
the rafters!
We’ve all been working very hard to prepare for this
concert and I hope those attending and watching really
enjoy the performance! If you can’t make it to the
concert, you can always go back and watch the
livestream video at a later time!
God Bless,
Amanda

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE 29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
READING I IS 45:1, 4-6
Thus says the LORD to his anointed, Cyrus, whose right hand I
grasp, subduing nations before him, and making kings run in his
service, opening doors before him and leaving the gates
unbarred: For the sake of Jacob, my servant, of Israel, my chosen
one, I have called you by your name, giving you a title, though
you knew me not. I am the LORD and there is no other, there is
no God besides me. It is I who arm you, though you know me not,
so that toward the rising and the setting of the sun people may
know that there is none besides me. I am the LORD, there is no
other.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 296:1, 3, 4-5, 7-8, 9-10
R. Give the Lord glory and honor.
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all you lands.
Tell his glory among the nations; among all peoples, his
wondrous deeds.
R. Give the Lord glory and honor.
For great is the LORD and highly to be praised; awesome is he,
beyond all gods. For all the gods of the nations are things of
nought, but the LORD made the heavens.
R. Give the Lord glory and honor.
Give to the LORD, you families of nations, give to the LORD glory
and praise; give to the LORD the glory due his name! Bring gifts,
and enter his courts.
R. Give the Lord glory and honor.
Worship the LORD, in holy attire; tremble before him, all the
earth; say among the nations: The LORD is king, he governs the
peoples with equity.
R. Give the Lord glory and honor.

READING 2 1 THES 1:1-5B
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians
in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace to you and
peace. We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering
you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith
and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ,
before our God and Father, knowing, brothers and sisters loved
by God, how you were chosen. For our gospel did not come to
you in word alone, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and
with much conviction.
R. Alleluia, alleluia. PHIL 2:15D, 16A
Shine like lights in the world as you hold on to the word of life.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
GOSPEL MT 22:15-21
The Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap Jesus
in speech. They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians,
saying, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that
you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you
are not concerned with anyone's opinion, for you do not regard a
person's status. Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to
pay the census tax to Caesar or not?" Knowing their malice,
Jesus said, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? Show me
the coin that pays the census tax." Then they handed him the
Roman coin. He said to them, "Whose image is this and whose
inscription?" They replied, "Caesar's." At that he said to them,
"Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what
belongs to God."

Lighting Upgrades – Our Parish Maintenance staff
have been working on upgrading some of our
churches, halls, offices and parking lots to LED lighting.
LED lighting is brighter, more long lasting and
extremely economical. We received most of the new
lights for free from Duquesne Light this summer. The
most recent change was made at St. Joseph Church to
lights that were originally meant to light up the stained
glass windows from inside at night. The new lights
make a dark space come alive with lights. Check it out
the next time you are in Verona after dark.
