We fly to your protection, O, Holy Mother of the Church!

All are invited to participate in this year‟s Walk With Christ Eucharistic Procession on the Feast of Corpus Christi, Sunday 3 June 2018.

Participants will gather at the corner of Pitt St and Martin Place in the CBD at 2:30pm. The procession will follow the Blessed Sacrament through the Sydney CBD, finishing at the St Mary‟s Cathedral Forecourt with Adoration and Benediction. If you are unable to join us for the Procession, you are more than welcome to join us for Adoration and Benediction from approximately 3:30pm in the St Mary‟s Cathedral Forecourt. The event will conclude at approximately 4:30pm.

The procession will help mark the 200th anniversary of a little known, but most heroic and faith-filled time in the history of the Australian Church. In 1818, the Government forcibly removed the only Catholic priest in Australia, Fr Jeremiah O‟Flynn, from Sydney. Fr O‟Flynn‟s last pastoral act was to leave the Blessed Sacrament reserved in a faithful Catholic‟s home so that the colonists and prisoners could come to adore Christ present there. For two years, the Blessed Sacrament, in this lay Sydney home, was the source and centre of worship and consolation for the priestless Catholics of the Australian colony.

The Book of Life can be found on the table in the Church foyer to write your prayer intentions that will be offered at the end of the procession.

THE FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI - All are invited to participate in a Walk With Christ Eucharistic Procession on the Feast of Corpus Christi at Holy Family Parish. On Sunday 3 June 2018 we will begin at the conclusion of 10am Mass, a procession with the Blessed Sacrament starting from the Church, processing up in to Aquinas College grounds and Holy Family car park, finishing back at the Church with Benediction.

'Mary Mother of the Church'. The announcement came in a decree issued March 3, 2018, by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. “The joyous veneration given to the Mother of God by the contemporary Church, in light of reflection on the mystery of Christ and on his nature, cannot ignore the figure of a woman (cf. Gal 4:4), the Virgin Mary, who is both the Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church.,” according to the decree. “This celebration will help us to remember that growth in the Christian life must be anchored to the Mystery of the Cross, to the oblation of Christ in the Eucharistic Banquet and to the Mother of the Redeemer and Mother of the Redeemed, the Virgin who makes her offering to God.” The “Notification” from the Church‟s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments clarified that the new Obligatory Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, must be celebrated in the Ordinary form of the Roman Rite beginning in 2018. The new feast is to be observed on the Monday following Pentecost.

We welcome Most Rev Terence John Gerard Brady who will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation this Saturday 26 May 2018. He was born on 19 April 1947 in Rose Bay and grew up in Oatley. He was ordained an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Sydney on 16 November 2007. Bishop Brady worked as a social worker with South Sydney Council before commencing his studies for the priesthood at St Patrick‟s College, Manly. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Sydney on 20 August 1983 by Archbishop Edward Clancy. Bishop Brady served in the parishes of Liverpool, Strathfield, Kingsgrove, Clifton Gardens, Mosman and Neutral Bay. At present he looks after the parishes of Balmain and Rozelle. He has maintained a strong commitment to social justice through a long connection with the St Vincent de Paul Society, especially serving the homeless through the Matthew Talbot Hostel, and for the last seven years as the Director of Catholic Mission for the Archdiocese. In May 2012 the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference elected Bishop Brady to chair the restructured Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life which will be responsible for defending the rights of migrants and refugees, the pastoral care of prisoners, prison chaplains and people with disabilities.
