DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: This coming Thursday, June 29th, is the Feast of Ss. Peter & Paul, two of our greatest Saints in the history of the Church. These two men were instrumental in beginning the Church. Their courage, perseverance, faith, resolve, & love of the Lord enabled them to withstand great persecution in order that their message of Jesus Christ & His salvation would be preached & heard. And because of their efforts, we, the Church of 2017, continue in their names to do the same---preach & witness to the Risen & Ascended Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ. Do we do that? Do we enact our baptismal call to make Jesus seen, felt, heard, & celebrated as we daily live? It is a great challenge for us today, but one that is needed & expected. And that is what Bishop Paprocki is asking us to do as he calls us to Discipleship. Bishop is calling each one of us to see ourselves like Ss. Peter & Paul---messengers of Jesus to a waiting world. And that may mean sacrifice. And that may mean ridicule. And that may mean digging deep for the courage to do so. And that will mean putting the Lord’s will ahead of our own will. With all that in mind, we have been blessed the last 3 summers & this current one with young men who have heard the Lord calling them to a specific type of disciple-ship---Holy Orders. They have witnessed as Deacons, preaching & baptizing. They are now, & will be next May, priests of our Lord Jesus Christ. They are able to be those distributors of God’s grace through the sacra-ments. What a beautiful example of giving their lives in service. We need more young men to do the same. In this day & age, we need more people willing to rise up & be those “Peters & Pauls” for us. We need courageous Catholics to act boldly in their lives of faith. The Catho-lic Church needs EACH OF US to say “yes” to disciple-ship. If we do, then our baptismal promises of following Jesus will be manifested to Him & to the world. As we remember Ss. Peter & Paul this week, may we pray for ourselves & others to continue the work of these two great Saints. May the likes of these men be seen in those who are ordained, professed, married, & single. Our world needs heroes like Peter & Paul. Our world needs YOU!!! YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE

A NOTE FROM OUR DEACON: There is something about summer that brings back memories of being a kid. Growing up we took a vacation every summer and they provided some of our most important family stories, from Disneyworld to sleeping in the van one night in Northern Maine to White Water Rafting The Grand Can-yon! In life it’s good to have fun like a kid once in a while, but in the spiritual life it is imperative and the Saint that teaches us that most clearly is St. Therese of Lisieux. Therese was born in the late 1800’s in the Nor-mandy region of France to Louis and Zellie Martin. In many ways her life should not be known to the world. She grew up in a loving, middle class family, joined a Carmelite Convent in her hometown when she was 15, and died of tuberculosis when she was only 24. She probably did not know more than fifty people in her life. But before she died, at the request of her superior, she wrote down her life story in a book that is now known as “Story of a Soul,” and in it gave the world her spiritual doctrine “THE LITTLE WAY,” which can be summed up by doing little acts with great love for Jesus, never missing an opportunity, no matter how small and simple, to love the person in front of you. I’ve heard people say she is too pious and emotional…don’t believe it! This is the girl who snuck into the Coliseum in order to kiss the ground where the martyrs gave their lives and asked the Pope himself for permission to join the Carmelites before the prescribed age (one of the great stories in all of Church History if you have the chance to check it out). She lived boldly and courageously as a daughter of God because she knew and trusted her Father in Heaven and shows us that the way to the “furnace of Divine Love is to sleep without fear in our Father’s arms.” She promised before she died to spend her Heaven doing good on Earth, and she is good to her word. This week ask for her intercession on anything, big or small, and I promise she won’t let you down. St. Therese, pray for us!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Sr. Janet, whose birthday is July 2nd. We wish you all the best, Sister, & we are all grateful for the many things you do for us at HF!
