When you are admitted to a hospital or nursing home, please tell the admissions staff and nurses that you are Roman Catholic and would like a visit from the facility’s Catholic Chaplain. This is due to HIPAA privacy laws. The Chaplain is often able to see you and administer the sac-raments during times when the pastor is not available.
If you experience any personal injury on church property, please call the office or speak to

Dear Holy Cross Parishioners,
The Feast of the Assumption is next Saturday, August 15. This year during
Covid-19, the obliga- tion to attend Mass is lifted. The Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed into heaven. She who bore the Christ child in her own womb follows Him into glory. We all hope to follow in due time. One of Mary’s titles is “Health of the Sick.” During Covid-19, pray to her daily to protect us and the whole world.
Blessings, Father McGuirk

UPDATE ON CLEARANCE RENEWALS Adult Parish Volunteers (18 and older) whose clearances expire August through December will be receiving information from Carol Kalich about which clearances they need to update. Independent of those renewal dates, the VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children Recertification must be completed by Sept. 1, 2020. The original VIRTUS training had been a one-time event. Those who did the VIRTUS training in 2015 or earlier are being notified to complete recertification this year. Clearances must be renewed every five years. In addition to VIRTUS, they are the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, the PA Child Abuse History Certification, and the dioce-san Volunteer Affidavit. Adults who wish to help as servers, lectors, Eucharistic min-isters, ushers, director of music, choir, cantors, festival, faith formation and youth ministry must complete the previously mentioned clearances. In addition to the initial VIRTUS training, they must also read the Code of Pastoral Conduct and take the Mandated Reporter training. Contact Carol Kalich at 724-925-2752 or [email protected] for information.

50th Wedding Anniversary Recognition
BISHOP MALESIC desires to recognize all couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary during the calendar year 2020. The Jubilarians, their children, relatives or friends should contact their local parish
office to register couples for this recognition. Ideally, the Jubilarians will be invited to join the bishop for a special Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass to be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral on Sunday, September 20, 2020. Even though circum- stances may not permit participation in this Mass, all couples will receive a scroll signed by the Bishop commemorating their anniversary.
We thank the Community Foundation
of Fayette County (CFFC) for providing the free
masks for Mass attendees and parish staff.

The Word - YEAR A Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Brothers and sisters: I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie; my conscience joins with the Holy Spirit in bearing me witness that I have great sorrow and constant anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my own people, my kindred according to the flesh.
Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33
Second Reading: Romans 9:1-5
First Reading: 1 Kings 19:9a, 11-13a
For the convenience of those of you who still
choose to stay away from public gatherings/Mass,
bulletins and Word Among Us booklets are still available on the porch by the church office
(at the corner of 7th and Depot Streets). The drop box is also available for your use
at any time.
