Holy Cross Catholic Church “A community of disciples of Jesus Christ called to celebrate, proclaim, and share the love of God with all people.” January 13, 2019 Baptism of our Lord Sunday Good People of Holy Cross, The decorations are boxed up, the lights put away, the cookies eaten, the gifts worn, and the whole season is wrapped away. Now, the work of Christmas begins. How do we discern the will of God? How do we follow the Christ child in this New Year? By following our delight, by doing whatever it is that truly delights us, as the Magi were filled with delightby the presence of the star. Following the star, which isnt as easy as it sounds, because to follow a star takes openness, prayer, time, honesty, patience, and hope. And youve got to show up in the first place, youve got to be there. The star appeared over everyones heads, but not everyone saw it that night long ago, and many still dont. Youve got to move from your head to your heart, deeper than your reason, which often is telling you lies, which is often operating out of fear, which is often acting as your own inner enemy. Move deeper, into the part of you that is still a child, the part of you that dreams and listens to dreams. Listen to yours. Deep down, in your truest self, you will be invited, you will be warned. Deep down, the child is waiting. Yes, if you follow the star you ll lose control. Yes, if you follow your dream you wont know what will happen. Yes, its risky, its strange, its difficult. Exactly! Thats the way of Jesus, thats always the way, and whatever that means to you, right now, in your own life, whatever that requires, thats what you should do. May you see Gods star in your heart and follow it with joy! Fr. Baptism of our Lord Sunday

Good People of Holy Cross, The decorations are boxed up, the lights put away, the cookies eaten, the gifts worn, and the whole season is wrapped away. Now, the work of Christmas begins. How do we discern the will of God? How do we follow the Christ child in this New Year? By following our delight, by doing whatever it is that truly delights us, as the Magi were “filled with delight” by the presence of the star. Following the star, which isn’t as easy as it sounds, because to follow a star takes openness, prayer, time, honesty, patience, and hope. And you’ve got to show up in the first place, you’ve got to be there. The star appeared over everyone’s heads, but not everyone saw it that night long ago, and many still don’t. You’ve got to move from your head to your heart, deeper than your reason, which often is telling you lies, which is often operating out of fear, which is often acting as your own inner enemy. Move deeper, into the part of you that is still a child, the part of you that dreams and listens to dreams. Listen to yours. Deep down, in your truest self, you will be invited, you will be warned. Deep down, the child is waiting. Yes, if you follow the star you’ll lose control. Yes, if you follow your dream you won’t know what will happen. Yes, it’s risky, it’s strange, it’s difficult. Exactly! That’s the way of Jesus, that’s always the way, and whatever that means to you, right now, in your own life, whatever that requires, that’s what you should do. May you see God’s star in your heart and follow it with joy! Fr.
