NAUTICAL CADETS The Allied Nautical Cadets held their fu st open house at the Wa- M ri y Avenue Sc hool . Holtsville. The cadets , formally stalled in May. already boast a membership of over 80. CUB SCOUTS The monthly meeting- of Cub Pack 80 was held 7:30 p. m. Sep- tember 25 , at the Waverly Avenue School , Holtsville. Approximately 60 cubs and their families were in attendance. Colonel Harry Dayton , Suffolk County Civil Defense director , was guest speaker. Col. Dayton ex- plained the role of Civil Defense in the county and gave timely tips. He advocated the setting up of a "Grandma 's Pantry "' in every home not onl y for use in the event of nuclear attack , but also as a precautionary measure in the event of heavy snowstorms such as this area experienced last Winter. He stressed that the pantry should contain food which may be con- sumed without cooking, should a iamily be faced by power failure, lie further stressed the need for the cubs as well as their parents to have a knowledge of first aid. A scale model of a fall-out shel- ter was on hand for all to view and the Colonel answered many pertinent questions. A demonstra- tion of mouth to mouth breathing was done b y John Kenna and John Plonski. The following awards were presented by Cubmaster George Forstel and Assistant Cub- master Arthur Meyer: Bobcats , Paul Fessler and John Hop kins; Wolf badges. Paul Straub , David Bality and Kevin Conway; Gold arrow under Wolf badge , Kevin Conway; Silver arrow under Wolf badge , Richard Crawford. Mr. Forstel explained the pro- ject for the coming season and stressed the fact that Cubbing is a family adventure , with parent ' s role a most vital one. Theis last Wednesday afternoon. Preliminary arrangements in the braided rug project were discus- sed , with actual work to begin October 11. Because of the hurri- cane , the training classes in pub- lic affairs and braided rugs were postponed. Refreshments followed with Mrs. Philip Kohler , as hos- tess. A number of the members plan to attend the annual Suffolk Coun- ty meeting and luncheon at the Town House , Huntington from 10 a. m. to 3 p. in. October 31. Be- sides the annual business meeting there will be an exhibit of the work done by members during the past year , and a dress revue in the morning. After the luncheon , there will be a lecture demonstra- tion on interior decorating b y a representative of Flint & Horner. MEDFORD 1-H CLUB The second-year members of the Medford Girls ' 4-H Club Satur- day enjoyed their household mana- gement class of "Let' s hel p at home " , including ironing, dish- washing and the making and changing of a bed. Next Saturday, beginning at 10 a. m., the girls whose names begin with A to N will make dish gardens in the in- door garden class. Girls should bring a suitable dish or p iece of pottery, some small plants and a tiny flower pot for African Violet propagation. The necessary soil will be available at class. VFW POST & AUX The members of Henry J. Jon- es Post 2937 , Veterans of Foreign Wars , and the Ladies ' Auxiliary met at a joint session at the Vete- rans hall last Thursday night. Dis- cussed was the annual Armistice Day ball , to be held November 11 wlmn . at 11 p. m.. the solemn ritual in memory of members who have passed on will take place. Discussed also was the adult Christmas party for post and aux- iliary members to be held Decem- ber 9. The children ' s Christmas part y will be held the afternoon of December 17. Refreshments will be served at both events and .special entertainment is planned for the children 's party. Santa will appear at both events. The post will hold its annual New- Year ' s Eve dance. An October ward par- t y, for the patients at North port Hospital is planned by the post and auxiliary. After the business meeting re- freshments were enjoyed. The monthly meeting- of CubPack 80 was held 7:30 p. m. Sep-tember 25, at the Waverly AvenueSchool , Holtsville. Approximately60 cubs and their families were inattendance.

Colonel Harry Dayton , SuffolkCounty Civil Defense director , wasguest speaker. Col. Dayton ex-plained the role of Civil Defensein the county and gave timelytips. He advocated the setting upof a "Grandma 's Pantry "' in everyhome not onl y for use in the eventof nuclear attack , but also as aprecautionary measure in the eventof heavy snowstorms such as thisarea experienced last Winter. Hestressed that the pantry shouldcontain food which may be con-sumed w i t h o u t cooking, should aiamily be faced by power failure,lie fur ther stressed the need forthe cubs as well as their parentsto have a knowledge of first aid.

A scale model of a fall-out shel-ter was on hand for all to viewand the Colonel answered manypert inent questions. A demonstra-t ion of mouth to mouth breathingwas done by John Kenna and JohnPlonski.
