The Life of Eduard Hornemann

It was a cold day in the Birkenau death camp in June 3, 1944. As we

entered the camp I looked out the window of the truck to see huge masses

of people working and waiting in line for something. All of a sudden one

group went to work while the other group went into the showers. Then the

truck made a stop and we got out of the truck . As soon as we got out of

the truck the smell of the air was horide the air was grey. As we got out,

we saw multiple trucks unloading other people and making everyone line

up in a single line. One after the other everyone got a number on their

wrist and were sent off to their appropriate barrack like getting sent off to

your appropriate classroom at school. Then the soldiers took us to the the

barracks to rest for a bit. After a few minutes they took us into a hall to

feed us. All they fed us was stale bread and un clean water. After our

group was done eating, they put us into two lines one would go to the

showers the other group would go to work. We were all lined up and then a

man of high importance came and decided which line would get a shower

and which would work. My line was chosen to work and the other was

chosen to work. After a few hours it was time to eat again, they took us

back into the hall and they fed us stale bread and gave us un clean water.

After we were done eating they escorted us back into the barracks like the

secret service guarding the president. They assigned us all beds according

to our numbers and gave us clothes to wear for the rest of our stay here.

As i laid down on the bed it was hard, cold ,and not comfortable. The beds

were stacked and there was always guards standing by to make sure no

one runs. After awhile i became tired and thought if i was going to stay

here forever, then I fell asleep.
