Coach’s Corner: LENT It seems a bit early to be talking about Easter. Yet, we are soon to enter a season that begins our preparation for Easter. It is a season called Lent. Lent is a “season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends the day before Easter. Lent comes from the Anglo- Saxon word lencten, which means spring.” The season is the preparation for Easter. Historically, Lent began as a period of fasting and preparation for baptism by converts and then became a time for penance by all Christians. The season of Lent moves from the time of Jesus’ temptation by Satan to his triumphant entry into Jerusalem and subsequent death. While this is definitely a solid definition of Lent, as Christians seeking to celebrate the season, we must understand it in a way that is meaningful to us. This is not to say we should change the definition. Rather, our mission should be to understand and celebrate it. Spring is the time in which the earth prepares itself for new life. The ground is going through the thaw from the winter months. The minerals are moving through the soil in preparation to support the plant life that will soon come. Spring rains are showering the ground, providing the moisture that will be needed to support the plants. Everything is working together to prepare to grow the seeds that will be planted in the soil of the earth. Spring (or lent) is the time that we remember and celebrate our new life as we remember the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. It is a time to examine our lives in relation to our calling in Christ Jesus; a time of reflection in which we prepare ourselves for the gift of grace brought through the sacrifice by Christ Jesus. I pray the Lenten season will spark new life in us, moving us into a deeper relationship with our Lord and Savior. In Christ, Pastor Cliff

MINISTRIES

In January and February, Mega Kids missed 4

Wednesdays in a row due to inclement weather!

We had a special study on love on Feb. 13th.

We began our 10-week study on the Lord’s

Prayer. We are in need of volunteers to provide

snacks for the children in March. Please contact

Barb Nickels if you are able to help at

248-904-6899.

Tuesday mornings 11 am to Noon

This month Hour of Prayer ministry will emphasize unity in Jesus. Romans 12:5 states, “. . . so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” We all belong to the family of God – awesome! How blessed we are to say and believe this Christian truth. During this time together God is praised, prayers are lifted high and we become one before our heavenly Father! This ministry meets Tuesdays 11am to noon. Call Mary Jane Winodradsky with any questions at 248-634-3839.

OF PRAYER

The prayer quilt group continues to meet at 1PM on the third Monday of each month. We welcome new ‘quilters’ and ideas. Serving/quilting skills are not required, just willingness to layer the top batting and backing together and sew in threads to knot. We have used the noisy offering money for a new iron and batting. Thank You! There is still some money left for other supplies. Donations of money, batting, embroidery thread and cotton or cotton polyester fabric in at least 1 ½ yard lengths are appreciated. If you have questions or suggestions please contact Mary Jane at 248-634-3839 or Julia at 248-634-9078

God bless you – Your Sister In Christ Jesus – Judy Wood

Library Corner –

Growing Jesus’ Way- by Carolyn Nystrom

In this children’s book, a child is saved through the loving power of Jesus Christ. It tells about how to have a personal relationship with Jesus and learning to believe what Jesus taught and to do the things Jesus did -- that's growing Jesus' way. This book looks at topics like bullying, sharing and forgiveness. The children are measured from one summer to the next to show how much they have grown in the Lord. This is a great book to read to your child during lent or give as a gift.

The Weight of Your Words – Measuring the Impact of What you Say- by Joseph M. Stowell

This book and Bible study challenges us to not allow our mouths to be controlled by our emotions but rather, to be controlled by God. Words have power and many scriptures in the Bible, especially in James talk about taming of the tongue. This book reminded me of a children’s song that says, ”Be careful little children what you say. Be careful little children what you say, for the Father up above is looking down in love, so be careful little children what you say.” This book would be a great book to read during lent.
