The Netherlands is known for its flat landscape filled with canals, tulip fields, windmills, clogs, many bicycles and a fun-filled Amsterdam night-life! However, this little Country is brimming with much more. There are so many Dutch towns and villages that are just waiting to be explored; Utrecht with its roots in Roman history, The Hague with its interesting governmental connections and Gouda with its famous cheese and many museums filled with a trove of works from artists including Rembrandt and Vermeer remaining from the Country’s 17th-century “Golden Age.”

The fact that the Netherlands is small makes it perfect for those wanting to see and experience a lot in a short amount of time and with relative ease. Two’s a Crowd is offering this small group, solos only tour as a follow on from the Budapest - Amsetrdam River Cruise or as a stand alone little adventure. As always you will have your own room each night and be escorted by an experienced host.

DAY 1: Sunday 6th September 2020 AMSTERDAM- AMERSFOORT/HOEVELAKEN (D)Today you will be met and collected from the Amsterdam boat dock, after disembarkation from the MS Amadeus Queen. We will transfer a short distance out of Amsterdam to Rembrandt Hoeve. Here we will get to visit a cheese farm and a clog (klompen) factory. Next we travel on to Amersfoort and check-in to our hotel. This will be our base for the next few nights. Tonight we will enjoy a group dinner at a quaint local restaurant.

DAY 2: Monday 7th September 2020 GIETHOORN- AMERSFOORT/ HOEVELAKEN (B,D)After breakfast we will journey north to Giethoorn- an idyllic village and mostly car-free region known as the ‘Dutch Venice.’ Giethoorn is famous for its boat-filled waterways, overflowing gardens, meandering footpaths, bicycle trails and centuries old thatched-roof houses which are built on small peat islands connected by over 170 small wooden bridges. We will enjoy some free time before taking a boat trip in De Wieden and enjoying an afternoon tea of coffee and cakes. Later in the day we return to our hotel and enjoy a group dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 3: Tuesday 8th September 2020 AMERSFOORT/HOEVELAKEN - UTRECHT- GOUDA- DELFT- THE HAGUE (B,D)Today we will check-out of our hotel and head off to explore the beautiful City of Utrecht, where we will enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of the medieval old town, canals and Christian monuments. The iconic Domtoren, a 14th-century bell tower with city views, stands opposite the Gothic Cathedral of St. Martin on central Domplein square. Next we set off to explore the picturesque city of Gouda. During our guided tour through this beautiful town famed for its cheese, you will see the fairytale town hall, canals where geraniums bloom, a lot of bicycles, cozy sidewalk cafes, a mill that is located on the water and old house facades. Gouda is a typically Dutch city with a rich history and a rushing modern life. The biggest treasure of Gouda is St. Janskerk. Dozens of stained glass windows tell the secular and religious history of Holland. After an introductory lesson in to the origin of Gouda cheese, we will enjoy a guided tour of the cheese museum. We then travel on to Delft and explore this historic city, famous for its hand-painted blue-and-white pottery. We will take a guided tour beginning with the canal-covered old town with its beautiful gabled houses. We’ll learn how, in its old town, the medieval Oude Kerk (old church) is the burial site of native son and Dutch Master painter Johannes Vermeer. Once the seat of the royal House of Orange, the gothic 15th-century Nieuwe Kerk (new church) houses the family’s tombs and overlooks Delft’s lively market square. You will see the Renaissance Town Hall and the former Waaghaus. Enjoy the beautiful view of Delft from the Oostpoort, the picturesque city gate with its two pointed towers. Our final destination for the day is The Hague (den Haag), where we check in to our hotel before enjoying a group dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 4: Wednesday 9th September 2020 THE HAGUE (B,L,D) We will spend the whole day exploring in and around The Hague today. First we will take a 3hr guided tour around this beautiful City starting at ‘The Buitenhof;’ the historic 13th C. centre of The Hague. We will see the impressive Ridderzaal and the Renaissance Oude Stadthuis (City Hall) and end by the Grote Kerk (great church). We will also see the very royal Noordeeinde and Palais Kneuterdijk as well as the Peace Palace, in which the International Court of Law resides. Our tour will be followed by a 2-course-lunch at Holland’s highest restaurant “The Penthouse Restaurant”. Next we visit to the famous Van Kleef Jenevers & Likeuren, and take a tasting of some of their delicious products (selection of van Kleef genever- Dutch gin- and liquors). Snacks such as bread, pie, olives, nuts, etc will also be provided for your enjoyment. As they say in the Netherlands... PROST! Next we will be transferred the short distance to the coast of the North Sea, to the city district of Scheveningen- the famous Nord Sea bath with long traditions. We will visit the old Spa in Strandboule which dates from 1885 and is decorated in gorgeous Art Nouveau style. From here you may walk to the stunning pier, which has a length of 381 m. Full of many small fishing boats the harbor offers a picturesque view. Upon return to The Hague the rest of the afternoon is your own to enjoy at leisure, before reuniting with the group for a local dinner.

DAY 5: Thursday 10th September 2020 THE HAGUE- LINDEN- AMSTERDAM (B) We depart The Hague after breakfast and visit the Molenmuseum De Valk, in Lieden. De Valk is a beautiful and authentic windmill museum and the origins of the mill itself date from 1743. We will enjoy a guided tour of the Windmill Museum and then some free time to wander the gardens. We will then journey on to Schiphol International Airport, in Amsterdam, where our Holland extension tour comes to an end. Alternately, if you would prefer to stay on for a few extra days in Amsterdam we can organise your transport in to central Amsterdam as well as any accommodation that you may require.
