Trawsfynydd Holiday Village

Situated in Snowdonia National Park our picturesque elevated holiday village overlooks the Rhinog mountain range and has Cadair Idris to the south and Snowdon to the north.

We offer privately owned Norwegian style log cabins and a bunkhouse. Being just off of the A470 near to Trawsfynydd, our self-catering accommodation is within easy reach of villages like Dolgellau, Porthmadog, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Bala and Betws-y-Coed and is a great place to base yourself to discover Snowdonia’s tourist attractions, mountains and coast.

We are only 2 miles from Coed y Brenin forest which has a large number of all weather mountain bike tracks, offering trails for mountain bikers of all abilities. Other nearby mountain biking areas include the new Blaenau Ffestiniog Downhill Trails, the Marin Trail, Penmachno Trail and the Mach Trails.

The holiday village is open all year except for November and cabins sleeping between 4 and 8 people can be hired for a short break or a week or two. The bunkhouse sleeps up to 20 and is suitable for walkers, mountain bikers, large family groups or school and youth groups. Cabins often come up for sale and make a great holiday home that can be used as often as you like. We also have a children’s play area, a convenience store incorporating an off-licence, a laundrette and our reception is open 7days/week with free WiFi. The village also benefits from having the Rhiw Goch Inn 5 minutes walk from the cabins and opposite the bunkhouse.

Snowdonia National park and the surrounding area offers something for everyone, whether it’s outdoor pursuits and high adventure, a romantic break, enjoying the tranquillity of the coast and countryside or some simple family fun.

Cabins for Sale Why not have a holiday every week?

There are often log cabins available to buy in Trawsfynydd Holiday Village, so why not become an owner of your very own holiday home. All the Norwegian style log cabins are detached, have an allotted parking space, are for holiday purposes only and are subject to an 11-month occupancy restriction.

Cabin sales prices depend, as with all properties, on position and condition. 2-Bedroomed cabin prices typically start from £35,000. There are both freehold and leasehold cabins in the village. Leasehold properties incur an annual ground rent, whilst freehold properties pay a site service charge, both incur sewerage/water fees, all of which are payable to Trawsfynydd Holidays Ltd.Current charges can be obtained from the reception. Electricity and council fees are collected by the respective authorities.

Cabins for Hire Trawsfynydd Holiday Village is open all year except for November and our cabins can be hired for a short break or a week or two. All the log cabins on site are privately owned and so the layouts shown below depict a typical cabin. Every cabin will vary a little from these depictions, as each owner will have personalised their cabin for example by using different furnishings, changing the layout a little or extending the veranda and decking areas. Many of our owners allow a pet to stay, but not all. Descriptions and pictures of each cabin can be found on our online booking pages.

Please note:• A limited number of cabins have a bed settee in the living room allowing 2 extra people to stay. • There are also a small number that have baths as well as showers.• A limited number of cabins have single beds rather than bunk beds.• Not all cabins have a large decking area, an area where sports equipment can be stored and/or mountain views.All of these features are subject to availability, so if you need any of these please ensure you state this when you book so that we can check the availability for you.

The beds are split between 5 bedrooms, each sleeping 4 people (2 sets of 3ft x 6ft bunk beds). There are Ladies and Gents shower rooms with toilets and washbasins. The kitchen is fully equipped and the cooking facilities include 2 cookers/microwaves/kettles etc. There is a lounge with TV (Freeview channels only) and DVD player and an eating area. Additionally there is a drying room, lock up bike shed, a purpose built BBQ area and a large parking area next to the bunkhouse.

Rhiw Goch BunkhouseOur self-catering Bunkhouse is a Visit Wales 4 star graded group accommodation and is ideal for walkers, mountain bikers, large family groups or schools and youth groups. It sleeps up to 20 with a minimum occupancy charge of 10 people.

What’s included in the price for the Cabins and Bunkhouse?We provide all bed linen for the beds. You must bring your towels, tea towels and washing up essentials. Alternatively, you are able to hire towels from us at the time of booking should you wish to and our on-site shop has a small supply of cleaning products.

Travel cots and high chairs can also be hired.

The cabins/bunkhouse and water are heated by electricity. Background heating is on constantly from 1st Oct - 1st June and additional heaters are in all cabins for use throughout the year. The cost of the electricity is included in the price.

There is a TV in all of our cabins and bunkhouse, but not all have scart sockets. In some cabins there is also a DVD player. Not all cabins have a storage space for sports equipment, a large decking area and/or mountain views. If you would like any of these please ensure that you state this at the time of booking so that we can confirm the availability. If you do not tell us at the time of booking we cannot guarantee that your cabin will have these facilities.

There is no street lighting on site as we are in the national park, it is therefore recommended that you bring a torch with you.

Many of the local towns and tourist attractions have special events throughout the year and there are various markets at different times in the month. Call into the Holiday Village Reception to find out what is on.

There are a number of adventure companies based nearby that organise outdoor activities for individuals, groups, companies and families. Typical activities include mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling, cliff jumping, scrambling, pot holing, canyoning, gorge walking, guided mountain walks, mountain navigation, rafting, kayaking, canoeing, 4x4 safari, quad treks and rally karts. Things to DoTrawsfynydd Holiday Village is situated in Snowdonia National Park and is close to both mountains and beaches. The area offers something for everyone, whether it’s high adventure, enjoying the tranquillity of the countryside or some simple family fun. Mountain Biking and CyclingThe Holiday Village is only 2 miles from the renowned Coed y Brenin Forest mountain biking trails. Additionally the new Downhill Trails at Blaenau Ffestiniog are just a 15 minute drive away and the Marin and Penmachno Trails near to Betws-y-Coed and the Mach Trails at Machynlleth are only 30 minutes away, making our village the ideal location to base yourself for a mountain biking break.

For those that prefer a more leisurely cycle ride there is plenty on offer nearby too, including the Mawddach trail (from Dolgellau), Lôn Ardudwy (Barmouth to Porthmadog), the trails around Trawsfynydd and Bala Lakes and the various national Cycle Routes.

Walking

Trawsfynydd Holiday Village is located in the southern part of Snowdonia National Park. The park’s mountains stretch for nearly 50 miles north to south and 25 miles east to west. With such a large area there are walks for all fitness levels ranging from high energy mountain walks through to low level strolls. Information on the numerous walks in the area can be obtained in our village reception and a number are detailed on our website under “Things to do”.

Castles and Historic places

There are many castles and historic attractions in Gwynedd. The bigger well known ones close to our village are Harlech Castle, Criccieth Castle, and Dolwyddelan Castle all of which are Cadw owned and have various events throughout the year. There are however smaller historic sites and castles nearby including Castell y Bere in the Dysynni Valley, Cymer Abbey near to Dolgellau, and Dyffryn Ardudwy Burial Chambers.

FishingGame and coarse fishing opportunities are abundant in Snowdonia. Nearby lakes include Trawsfynydd Lake with wild native brown trout and stocked rainbow trout. At Eisteddfa fishery in Pentrefelin there is a carp lake, a pleasure lake and a trout lake. And Bron Eifion has a 4 acre coarse lake stocked with carp, bream, tench, golden and blue orfe, and roach, and a 2 acre trout lake stocked with brown and rainbow trout.

Excellent river fishing is available on various rivers throughout the region and permits for River Eden which runs close to the village can be bought from our shop. Shore and sea fishing is possible along most of the coastline.

Caves and MinesDescend into the deep mine and visit the Victorian Village at Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog or visit Zip World Titan and Bounce Below. At Llanfair Slate Caverns, near to Harlech, you enter via twin arches into the Cathedral cavern emerge at the other end to view Cardigan Bay. Sygun Copper Mine in Beddgelert offers self-guided audio visual tours through winding tunnels and large colourful chambers and caverns and at King Arthurs Labyrinth you can go on an underground adventure learning about the tales of King Arthur. For the more adventurous, why not explore old slate mines with Go below Underground Adventures or Corris Mine Explorers.

Narrow Gauge RailwaysThe Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are the closest to our Holiday Village running between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Porthmadog and then further via Beddgelert onto Caernarfon. Fairbourne Railway is also relatively close and runs along the coast from Fairbourne to the Barmouth Ferry station. Tal-y-Llyn Railway runs from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol. You can pick up the train at Abergynolwyn and ride down to the coast to spend the day on the beach at Tywyn.

Golf ClubsThere are approximately 20 golf courses in Gwynedd, the near by ones include: the championship links course in Aberdovey, Bala Golf Club overlooking the lake, the parkland courses in Betws-y-Coed and Dolgellau, Fairbourne Golf Club located in the Mawddach Estuary, Royal St. David’s Golf Club located below Harlech Castle and Porthmadog Golf Club next to Black rock sands.

On Anglesey there is Pili Palas, the Anglesey Sea Zoo, Henblas Park, Foel Farm Park and Stone Science to name just a few. Leisure CentresLeisure centres with swimming pools can be found at Bala (18 miles), Porthmadog (14 miles), Harlech (25 miles) and Tywyn (25 miles). Further leisure centres are located in Dolgellau (10 miles) and Barmouth (19 miles).

Adventure activities include:Zip World Titan and Bounce Below in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Zip World Velocity in Bethesda. Tree Top Adventure near Betws-y-Coed. Indoor climbing is at the Beacon Climbing Center. Whitewater Rafting is available at Canolfan Tryweryn-The National Whitewater Center. Sailing and windsurfing sessions at Bala Watersports Centre on Bala Lake. Glasfryn Park has go karts, quads, bowling, archery and fishing. Red Line indoor karting is in Caernarfon and Adventure Mountain has off-road rally karting and quad trekking. Dragon Raiders Paintball park is located between Criccieth and Pwllheli and Offaxis Wakeboarding and Surfing Academy in Abersoch offers courses or equipment hire.

How to Find Us

Trawsfynydd Holiday Village is located in Bronaber, approx 2 miles south of Trawsfynydd. It is conveniently located just off the A470 in Gwynedd, 10 miles north of Dolgellau and 14 miles south of Porthmadog. We are approximately 2 hours drive from Liverpool, Manchester, Shrewsbury and the Midlands.

Approaching from the Liverpool/Chester area:

Take the A494 to Bala then turn right onto the A4212 to Trawsfynydd. Turn left on the A470 heading to Dolgellau. The Holiday Village is two miles on the left at Bronaber.

Approaching from the Shrewsbury area:

Turn left on to the A458 to Dolgellau where you will join up with the A470. Carry on this road bypassing Dolgellau town and carry on for a further eleven miles. The Holiday Village is on the right hand side at Bronaber before you get to Trawsfynydd.

Rhiw Goch Inn

The Rhiw Goch Inn is situated 5 minutes walk from Trawsfynydd Holiday Village overlooking the Rhinog Range of Mountains. The Inn has served many masters in its time including the Officer’s Mess for the Royal Artillery. It now offers freehouse and cask ales in public and lounge bars, the restaurant serves snacks and home-made / chargrilled meals in the large eating areas. Vegetarian dishes and a children’s menu are also available. There is also a beer garden and games room.
