Vittorini” meets “INS Narcis Xifra i Masmitjà” Cultural Exchange between Linguistic Liceo “ E. Vittorini” di Lentini and the high school “INS Narcis Xifra i Masmitjà” of Girona. On 22 nd April a group of fourteen students of Liceo “ Vittorini” , linguistic department, could start their amazing experience in the world of intercultural exchanges. Thanks to two English teachers (Mrs Gabriella Romano coordinator of the project, and Mrs Milena Lo Zito ) our students had the opportunity to live a real moment of cultural growth. Mrs Romano arranged this project with a Catalan colleague Mrs Isabel Pont Sala, a chemistry teacher at school “ INS Narcis Xifra i Masmitjà ” in Girona( Barcelona- Spain). They decided to guide us to Girona where they were welcome by 15 Catalan students, who were so enthusiastic about hosting us in their homes. All together we attended The Catalan high school, taking part to different study activities about “ our Medi- terranean common roots” and getting to know similarities and differences between the Italian education system and the Span- ish one. We had the opportunity to speak English, especially when we illustrated the Power Point presentation introducing Sicily and its tradition to the Catalan partners. We enjoyed so much their time in Girona and our stay by the Catalan families, because they were really warm , kind and help- ful . Thanks a lot! ¡Hola! Somos un grupo de alumnos de 16-17 años del Institut Narcís Xifra i Masmitjà de Girona (Catalunya-Spain) que participa en un intercambio cultural en inglés con vuestro instituto. El proyecto se llama “Mediterranean roots” y pretende descubrir raices comunes entre nuestras culturas. Estamos muy agradecidos de poder participar en este intercambio ya que nos brinda la oportunidad de potenciar nuestra capacidad de expresión, relacionarnos y conocer otra cultura; también compartir conocimientos y hacer turismo. Estamos muy contentos y satisfechos con la acogida por parte de las familias y disfrutamos mucho con nuestros compañeros sicilianos. ¡Muchas gracias! Alumnos del Institut Narcís Xifra i Masmitjà 3D of Liceo Scientifico inteviews their Spanish mates Why have you chosen to do this experience? “Because thanks to it we can meet different people and cultures.” What have you liked most here in Sicily? “I think that Catania is a beautiful city but also Etna is very beautiful.” What’s your opinion about Sicilian people? “You are funny, you eat a lot and you are a little bit … exalted.” (laughing) What are the differences between Sicily and Catalonia? “Sicilian people are very religious, while in Catalonia we don’t pray a lot, in- stead we love going to parties.” What do you think of Italian people, do you find them very different from the Spanish? “No, your behaviour and ours are very similar.” What have you noticed in particular of Lentini so far? “I’m impressed with some sounds, for example the sound of motorbikes.” What other places have you visited in your life? “I’ve been to Tuscany, Austria, Ger- many and France.” What kind of music do you prefer? “I like raggaeton very much.” Do you know some Italian singers? “Yes, in Spain Laura Pausini is very famous.” What are your hobbies? “I love artistic gymnastic, but I love also shopping.” Can you tell me something about your school? “We study scientific subjects, we stay at school more hours a day than you because on Saturdays we don’t have school. The univer- sity is obligatory for four years then we can work.” Have you eaten some typical Sicilian food? “Yes, I ate arancino and granita. Your food is very very good!” Do you think that this experience can help you in some way? “Yes, I think that after this exchange my English will be better and I will be more sociable.” Thank you for your attention, have a nice stay and a lot of fun! “Thank you, bye.” OUR MEDITERRANEAN ROOTS

Il Liceo “E. Vittorini” incontra
l’“INS Narcis Xifra i Masmitjà”
Lo scambio culturale tra il Liceo Linuistico “E. Vittorini”
e l’INS Narcis Xifra i Masmitjà” di Girona.
Il 22 Aprile un gruppo di studenti del liceo linguistico abbiamo
potuto avviare una sorprendente esperienza nel mondo degli scambi
culturali. Grazie a due insegnanti di inglese, la prof.ssa Gabriella Ro-
mano refernte del progetto e la prof.ssa Lo Zito, abbiamo avuto l’op-
portunità di vivere un momento di reale crescita culturale. La Prof.ssa Romano ha organizzato il progetto con la collabora-
zione della collega catalana, Isabel Pont Sala, un’insegnate di chimica della scuola di Girona. Le docenti hanno deciso di
guidare 14 studenti del nostro liceo linguistico a Girona dove abbiamo ricevuto il benvenuto da parte di 15 studenti catalani
che si sono dimostrati entusiasti di ospitarci nelle loro case. Tutti insieme abbiamo frequentato delle lezioni al liceo catalano,
dove abbiamo partecipato a diverse attività di studio riguardanti le nostre comuni radici mediterranee, imparando anche le
differenze tra il sistema scolastico spagnolo e quello italiano. Noi abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di parlare in inglese special-
mete quando abbiamo illustrato una presentazione in Power Point della Sicilia e delle sue tradizioni agli studenti catalani. Ci
siamo davvero divertiti molto a Girona ospiti delle famiglie che sono state calorose disponibili e gentili.

partecipa ad uno scambio culturale in
lingua inglese con alcuni studenti del
Liceo linguistico “E. Vittorini”. Il
progetto si chiama “Radici
Mediterranee” e mira a scoprire radici
comuni alle nostre culture. Siamo molto
contenti di potere partecipare a questo
scambio visto che ci offre l’opportunità
di potenziare la nostra capacità
espressiva di relazionarci e di conoscere
un’altra cultura; al tempo stesso abbiamo
la possibilità di allargre le nostre
conoscenze e fare turismo. Siamo inoltre
molto contenti e soddisfatti
dell’accoglienza ricevuta dalle famiglie e
ci divertiamo molto con i nostri
compagni siciliani. Molte grazie!
Gli studenti della 3D del Liceo scientifico “E. Vittorini” intervista i compagni spagnoli Perché hai scelto di fare questa esperienza? “Perché grazie ad essa possiamo conoscere gente e culture diverse.” Cosa ti è piaciuto di più qua in Sicilia? “ Catania è molto bella, ma anche l’Etna.” Come trovi i siciliani? “Siete divertenti, mangiate tanto e siete un po’… esaltati.” (ridendo) Quali differenze trovi tra la Sicilia e la Catalogna? “I siciliani sono molto religiosi, noi non preghiamo molto, a noi piace anda-re alle feste.”
Che ne pensi degli italiani, li trovi molto diversi dagli spagnoli? “Siete molto gentili ed estroversi, il vostro comportamento ed il nostro sono molto simili.” Cosa ti è piaciuto fino ad ora di Lentini? “Sono rimasto molto colpito da alcuni ru-mori, quello dei motorini in particolare.” Quali altri luoghi hai visitato oltre la Sici-lia? “Sono stato in Toscana, Austria, Germania e Francia.” Che genere di musica ascolti? “Mi piace molto il reggaeton.” Conoscete qualche cantante italiano? “Sì, in Spagna Laura Pausini è molto famosa.” Quali sono i tuoi hobby? “Amo la ginnastica artistica, ma adoro anche fare shop-ping.” Raccontami qualcosa riguardo alla tua scuola “Studiamo materie scientifiche stiamo a scuola più ore di voi perché il sabato non abbiamo lezione. L’università è obbligatoria per 4 anni e dopo possiamo cercare un lavo-ro”. Hai provato qualche piatto tipico siciliano? “Sì, ho mangiato l’arancino e la granita. Il vostro cibo è buonissimo!”
Ritieni che questa esperienza possa aiutarti in qual-che modo? “Sì, penso che dopo questo scambio il mio inglese mi-gliorerà ed io sarò più socievole.” Grazie per la tua attenzione, buona permanenza e buon divertimento! Grazie e arrivederci!
