HOK provided full design services for the redevelopment of Logan’s Terminal A. The design consolidates all of Delta’s business units in a new 26-gate, 33,600 m2 terminal; a satellite 26,300m2 concourse, and a connecting pedestrian tunnel. A positive passenger impression has been achieved through distinct architectural forms, easily understood circulation patterns and a generous allocation of space for functional requirements with no compromise to operations and security.

HOK was selected by the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) as the Master Architect and Terminal Designer for the new terminal built between the gateway’s two main runways. The building, featuring a signature 60m diameter glass-and-steel skylight, includes a new ticketing hall, central passenger security, baggage claim area, US Customs facilities, administrative offices and 40 gates that can collectively accommodate a complete range of both narrow and widebody aircraft.
The project is LEED certified and the first LEED certification given to an entire airport campus. The following is a list of awards received by the project.

At the airport entry, traffic is organized by a lushly landscaped new boulevard and lagoon for both arriving and departing passengers to experience. The New Doha International Airport (NDIA) features a 588,000 m2 enclosed passenger terminal with 40 contact gates plus an additional 10 remote-stand gates. As part of the overall master plan, HOK is designing two, 100-room luxury hotels along with a 1,580 m2 health spa, a 1,900 m2 public mosque, 3,100-car parking garage with adjacent ground transportation building, two central utility plants, and a 66,000 m2 state-of-the-art flight catering facility.
In conjunction with Lea+Elliot, HOK is also designing an automated people mover (APM) allowing for effortless transfer between the airport’s two nodes and is accessible at both departure and arrival levels.
All the materials for this project have been carefully selected with maintenance in mind and to be timeless, modern, warm, and complimentary to the culture and architectural heritage of the region.

The consortium led by HOK and Mott MacDonald were appointed by the GMR Group, an Indian infrastructure development firm, to take forward its plans for the upgrade and expansion of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. HOK provided architecture and programming services while Mott MacDonald provided project management and civil engineering. Also part of the team was the London/Delhi-based engineering firm of Pell Frischmann/Frischmann Prabhu.
HOK provided GMR with schemes for the airport at Delhi and the design scored the highest in technical ratings against several world-renowned bidders. This project entails the design of a new 250,000 m2 terminal which will provide India and its rapidly growing economy with a vital modern gateway. This new addition will increase the airport’s capacity from current levels of 16 mppa to 36 mppa. Also included in the brief is the refurbishment and extension of the existing international and domestic terminals. Phase 1 of the project, which targeted completion of the new terminal, was set for 2010, coinciding with India’s hosting of the Commonwealth Games. The concept design also included a multi-storey car park and airport village commercial centre connected via pedestrian links from the terminal to the new metro station/interchange.
Sustainable Highlights• Maximize use of natural daylighting• High recycled content construction• Electric vehicles airside and landside• Water efficient landscaping• Indoor environmental quality control• Dedicated public transport

HOK designed the expansion of Bangalore International Airport Terminal 1 to meet the soaring passenger demand to an estimate of over 17 million by 2015. An approximate additional space of 40,000 m2 will help meet the growing demand of increased air travel into and around India.
A completely new landscaping concept will take shape and lead all the way up to the terminal building, while interior landscape features and planting introduce passengers from around the world to Bangalore as the garden city of India. Terminal 1 will sport an enhanced and modern design elevation and will be completed in 2013.

HOK was one of five shortlisted international design firms invited to participate in the Changi International Airport Terminal 4 Competition. The design brief called for an exceptional innovative terminal experience focused on the airside commercial retail area. Terminal 4 will replace the existing Budget Terminal at the same site, but the new design will cater to a growing passenger trend, one that is affluent and travelling on low cost regional carriers. The terminal will have a capacity of 16 MAP, a total floor area of 140,000 m2, and will have 20 contact gates.
HOK’s submission for Terminal 4 is a truly unique design that has not seen its like before. The design is marked by an undulating wave of glass structure, seemingly hanging from the roof and situated at the boundary between airside and landside. The glass structure is accessible by passengers and is envisioned to be primarily outdoor garden space with “pockets” of enclosed programmed space at the low points of the wave. Views of the retail commercial area can also be seen from the ticket lobby and are beautifully framed within the arches of the wave glass structure.

HOK is the Lead Design Architect of the MAA 103 Consortium that was selected for this significant expansion to the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The new Midfield Satellite Concourse will have 28 aircraft contact gates, 8 of which will be able to handle Code F, A380 aircraft. The concourse building will be 216,000 m2 in area, 4 storeys high and will be connected back to the main terminal with a new underground APM and BHS system.
The concourse interior is overwhelmingly modern but balanced with a sense of Thai-ness. Elements of Thai culture are incorporated in modern and artful ways, such as the ceiling made of crisscrossing arched ribs in-filled with timber colored slats. The resulting diamond patterned ceiling recalls both traditional silk cloth patterns as well as regional basket weaving textures. A series of gardens also serve to remind passengers of the tropical nature of the country at the same time bringing greenery and light deep into the concourse. The midfield satellite is scheduled to be complete and operational by 2016.
