Meaning

Sociology deals with the study of social relationships, values, norms and attitudes. And law is the structured andcrytellised form of norms and values.

Indra Deva defines"Sociology of law is the study of the relationship which the legal system of asociety has with its othersubsystems".Roger Cotterrell describes Sociology of law as "the systematic, theoretically grounded, empirical study of law as a set of social practices or as an aspect or field of social experience."

Scope and subject Matter

How does sociology of law becomes a distinct displine?

What are the circumstances that led to the evolvement and elevation of sociology of law either as a part of sociology/law as interdisciplinary 'socio-legal studies'?

What are the fields of consideration for the scholars dealing with sociology of law, such as objects, things in dispute, thought processes, discussions, investigations, etc.

Is there any distinction between Jurisprudence and sociology of law in terms of subject matter?
