History WW2 We will be studying the events of World War II and it’s legacy in both Britain and beyond. The children will learn about significant events in the war as well as studying issues around the evacuation of children from London. Science Changing Sound This half term we will be studying the transmission of sound and how humans and animals hear sounds. The children will learn about sound waves and vibrations as well learning about the biology of the ear. PE Invasion Games Class 5 will be studying different games that involve defending and invading goals and zones. We will be working with our specialist P.E. coach so we are looking forward to some outstanding sessions. Art WW2 Public Safety Messages The children will be studying the imagery and messaging behind WW2 public safety posters. They will create their own posters and consider the intended audiences for their posters. RE Miracles We will be learning about the instances of, and belief in, miracles in the Bible. The children will study famous stories about miracles as well as learning about the meaning of miracles to Christians. We are again focusing on times tables facts. Year 5 pupils should know all facts up to the 12 x table as well as corresponding division facts (i.e. 7 x 9 = 63 therefore 63 / 9 = 7). There is a section on the Maths blog which links to times tables activities and tests to help learn these facts at home. PHSE Anti-Bullying We will be working with Mr Rojas to continue our studies on the topic of anti- bullying. We will be looking at the changing nature of bullying and how we can effectively counteract it in all its forms. Mathletics Every Monday our homework is to score a minimum of 1,000 points on the Mathletics website which will earn each pupil a certificate. The points can be accumulated all week and the weekly deadline is on Sunday. Literacy Goodnight Mr Tom Our Literacy lessons will be themed around the book Goodnight Mr Tom.
