the first video game that runs on acomputer at Cambridge university.*
However other sources say that the firstvideo game ever created was tennis for 2
created by Willy Hinginbotham at theBrookhaven National Laboratory in Upton,played on an oscilloscope it was used toentertain guests at the lab.*
Steve Russell created Space war in 1961and it was the first game that wascreated for computer use*

In 1967, Ralph Baer wrote the first video
game played on a television set andcalled it Chase. It was played on theprototype of what was to be the firstvideo games console, the Oddyssey andknown at this stage as the Brown box*
which could be hooked up to a TV, andcoincidentally was also designed byRalph Baer. There were six games thatcould be played on the Oddyssey,including a light-gun game where a
separate gun accessory that detectedlight allowed players to shoot things onscreen.

Midway introduces the first game in an arcadethat keeps score and displays the highest ones in1978, it was called Space Invaders.*
In 1980 Mattel creates the Intelivision* and its thefirst real competitor of the Atari 2600. It has bettergraphics than Atari's 2600, but a higher retail price($299).
Battlezone is first 3-D game ever created in 1980 . Itis set in a virtual battlefield and was laterenhanced by the U.S. government for trainingexercises.
1980 also saw the invention of Pac-man fromcompany Namco
Cinematronics debuts Rick Dyer's Dragon Lair, thefirst video game to feature laser-disc technology.
In 1985 Tetris was released by Russian Alex Pajitnovand was to be played on a PC.

being test-marketed in NY one year earlier.Nintendo releases the handheld Game Boy for$109 in 1989.
Atari tries to enter the handheld market with theLynx, a colour handheld console retailing for $149also in 1989
In 1993 Atari released the Jaguar, attempting tobe the first 64-bit console on the market. Theproduct actually runs two 32-bit processors.1995 Sony brings the PlayStation to the U.S. andsells the console for $299 and the Nintendo 64 wasreleased in Japan and a year later in the US.

2004 Nintendo releases the Nintendo DS, a portablesystem with two screens, one of which can be usedas a touch screen.
In 2005 Sony releases the PSP, a portable system witha large, high-resolution display
Xbox 360 was released in 2005 Nintendo wii was released in 2006 and wii sports
became the best selling video game of all time in2009
