Khonshu: ~3000 BF (Before Foundation)

Similar to Ancient Egypt or Babylon of our own Earth, Khonshu was an oasis kingdom, eked out from a tiny river on the tip of a peninsula. In the early days of their Earth, civilization held its seat of power in the south of the major land mass, Eutheria. Despite it’s isolation by land from other areas of the continent, cut off by an expanse of desert, Khonshu controlled a large fleet of ships, which were able to patrol distant holdings, and raid potential foes. Indigenous to many nocturnal creatures, Khonshu’s religion was based heavily upon the Moon and deities related to it. By the

But long before they became a mystery, the Jaguars were the dominant power across two continents. Their monolithic structures were built as far north as what is now Xalepena City. Chugoku: 745 BFWhen the Myo Khans, roving

nomads of the eastern steppes, settled down from generations of war with the Vandal tribes, they had no comprehension that they would be placing the cornerstones of one of the greatest nations on earth. Despite it’s current crisis of civil war, and oft deposition of weak rulers, Chugoku has developed many of the greatest advancements in technology, culture and government. Even in the middle of a 4-sided war, Chugokans rarely live in poverty. Unlike our own China, Chugoku managed to keep outsiders restricted to merchant activities and never found themselves a practical colony to Imperialist western countries. Instead, the decadence of its own rulers forced the hands of the people to fight for equal rights, thrusting Chugoku into it’s current internal strife.

Rodentian Republic: ~650 BFThe myth goes that two

rats found their tails bound together. Some versions of the story say they were bandits, tail knotting being a common punishment in Hyperia. Other variations say they had survived a brutal battle together, binding their tails in brotherhood. In either case, the two rats, Rode and N’Tia found themselves on the coast of the Mare-Civitas, the Civilized Sea. Dying of thirst the two desperately drank from the waters. The miraculously fresh water saved their lives and the two set about building a house upon the coast. In the decades

to come more animals would trek to the coastline, hoping to avoid predators in the wilds and join the two friends and build a village. By 650 BF, Rodentia had become a nation of ideals, quickly on it’s way to being the crown of the civilized world. A Senate of elected officials discussed the needs of the people and the laws of the known world.

Rodentian Empire: 0 AF (After Foundation)

By 0 AF, Rodentia had become a twisted, corrupt civilization. Murius, a member of the Senate, found himself cast out for daring to question the ethics of a fellow member. The group had become a criminal syndicate that the civilians thought they voted for. During his last days in Rodentia, after he had presented his evidence to the council chambers, Murius worked with members of the army to ensure that if he failed, the Senate would fall. Murius’ body would eventually be found on the coast of Brisica, an island not far from the capital. The day after, the army moved into the city and sacked the Senate building, killing all the senators inside. The city itself was destroyed to a brick. In the coming months, General Soricus, a shrew, would lead the military in building a new capital, Muriccio, in honor of the one honest Senator, on the coast of Brisica. Soricus would be crowned Caesar, and the calendar reset to After Foundation.

Scyzantine Empire: 752 AFCold-blooded creatures

have always liked the heat. During the waning years of the Rodentian Empire, Scyzas, a monitor lizard, founded a home for all reptile kind on the shores of Lake Tiberia. He named the city after his wife Lacerta, who had died on their journey. Scyzas, like many reptiles, was seen as a lower form of life to mammals; the Rodentian Empire used reptiles as slaves. With a safe haven for their kind, Reptiles across the continents travelled there, to live under a free banner. Though the Rodentians saw this growing ‘scaly presence’ as a threat, the Vandals to their north would destroy their empire before they could act against the slaves.

For generations the city would grow, above and below ground. Other cities sprouted up across the desert, and the tribes of Zabar allied themselves with the new sultanate. Eventually even the great kingdom of Khonshu would become a principality to the Sultan. Some historians suggest this great unification of the south and the east would cause the Holy Rodentian Empire to form. Taking up the cause of mammals everywhere, Orders of Knights would bring battle to the Scyzantines, for several centuries, the Southern Crusades would wreak havoc upon both sides. Though the Knightly Orders are now scattered and broken, bankrupt in their own blood lust, and the principalities under the rule of the Scyzantines have returned to their own autonomy, there is always the chance these two powers could bring about a new war, to wreck the entire

devices, or worked in foundries casting iron work, Vespucci longed for exploration. Generations of failed sea voyages told him that the world had been discovered, and there was nothing new to see, but he eventually set about proving the existence of another land mass by haphazard math, conjectured evidence, and a collection of hearsay. Despite his inept presentation, a group of Civitan merchants saw promise in his suggestion. Another continent would provide colonization prospects as well as new resources to exploit, which the Mare-Civitas was quickly running out of. In 1488 AF, Lorenzo da Muriccio, the Prince of Merchants, paid for the ships, crew, and supplies Vespucci would need to reach a continent half a world away. A year later with land in sight, Vespucci wept on the deck, too wracked with emotion to set foot on the land. Lorenzo da Muriccio claimed the land of Vespuccia for Mare-Civitas.

The World Today: 1821 AFToday is an era of unrest on

their Earth. As one might say every moment is anywhere. A new Empire rises in Aquitar, and the Scyzantines outlast any of the three Rodentian nations. With gunpowder and cannon leading the way in war, many soldiers of antique combat find themselves outstripped in prowess. Today, heroes lead from the rear, directing battle from atop a hill, drinking sancerre in their tents. The thunderous volley of black powder kills thousands in a battle, where hours would go

hemisphere.

Holy Rodentian Empire: 945 AF

The story of the building of Muriccio often leaves out that much of the building material was taken from the scorched ruins of Rodentia. Many prophets said that any nation built on the ruins of corrupt Rodentia would be doomed. Though the city of Muriccio stands to this day, The Rodentian Empire had fallen by 800 AF. For a century and a half, the Vandals controlled the continent in a reign of fear and war. When the Scyzantines began pressing west into the remnants of the Rodentian Empire, the Vandals reunified the ancient nation into a new machine of war. The Holy Rodentian Empire fought to protect God and Country from the reptilian threat. Despite having origins in a call to war, the HRE became a stable force in Eutheria, even giving the world such advanced leaders as Charles de Mange. Eventually as the crusades against the easterlings weighed heavily on the soldiery and the citizenry, the Empire fell apart, into half a dozen minor nations, but the framework still exists, bolstered by the Grand Order of the Knights Bubonic, always poised to protect the western world from the threat of scaly domination.

Rediscovery of Vespuccia: 1489 AF

Vespucci da Ventura was different from other Venturans. While most kept to their smithies inventing new

by, in antiquity, with out a single death. Brushfire’s Earth is on the cusp of the modern age, if it can only survive the industrial revolution.

Page 5 Axony

History of Axony789 AF - Even through the

height of the Rodentian Empire, northern Axony had escaped conquest. One of the Emperors had even built a wall to defend against Canine retaliations. As the Empire shrank and fell apart, the wall was left undefended, and the North Axons eventually came down and destroyed the territorial capital of Wilder.

810 AF - Through their military expansions the Axons would take the entire island back and move onto mainland Eutheria. The territories gained in and around Agincourt would become a point of conflict with the Holy Rodentian Empire in later centuries.

1021 AF - Axon explorers would begin planting small colonies along the coast of northern Vespuccia, several

centuries before the official discovery by the Civitans.

Felis Rex1055 AF - Until the 11th

Century, Axony had been a collective of feudal clans, with the major base of power in the north under the influence of the Canines, and specifically the Terriers, ruled by Lord Godwin. From across the Axon Channel in the territory of Agincourt, Duke Devon III would begin building a force to take southern Axon back for the felines that had originally ruled prior to Rodentian and Canine conquest.

1056 AF - In a period when battles of numbers outweighed any other strategy, Devon could not build up the number of troops needed to successfully take Axony, and turned to alternative tactics. On the 1st of the New Year, Devon’s forces landed in East Saxus,

several miles west of the nearest logical landing point from the mainland. Godwin’s forces would have to travel those miles on foot to stop Devon from taking Wilder, the best defensible position in southern Axony. While Devon’s forces were rested before the battle, Godwin’s forces were exhausted, yet in the opening attacks, Devon and his forces fled towards the coast. With their morale surging from the sight of fleeing felines, Godwin’s army charged directly into a trap. Devon and a collection of his kin, armed with the Aquitaran Claw Gauntlets, charged out of the north, faster than Godwin’s own soldiers, half of his army had circled around behind unnoticed, closing around the dogs. By day’s end Godwin’s forces were broken and the Lord of Canines was dead. Before the 1st of the New Year was over, Devon was crowned King of all Axony.

Axon Imperialism1490 AF - As the rest

of Eutheria rediscovered Vespuccia, the small undeveloped colonies along the north became vulnerable. Axony would begin building it’s own navy and paying explorers to colonize in the name of Axony. The two major companies that would form were the South Sea Trading Company, and the Dominion Trade Company.

1498 AF - The South Sea Trading Company, founded by Lord Clive began sending ships south around Khonshu

in the hopes have having a direct trade route to Bharat and Chugoku. On the islands off the coast of Bharat, the SSTC build a city on Anatomy Bay in the hopes of establishing a major presence in the area. Out from here over the next few centuries the Axon colonies even expand to mainland Bharat and the southern tip of Chugoku.

1508 AF - The Dominion Trade Company slowly expands it’s control over all of North Vespuccia. This brings it into numerous conflicts with the Xalepenan Republic and Civitan Colonies in the south. Along side their ships being attacked by pirates, the DTC places a high price on living in the territories they control. High tariffs, indentured contracts, and forced merchant marine service causes considerable friction with colonists.

Rise of Parliament1512 AF - Over centuries of

political conflict, the Lords of Axony slowly limited the King’s power over the people, creating a semi-democratic system, wherein the Knights of the realm held voting control over many of the country’s policies in Parliament. Each of these restrictions of power would see little conflict with the Crown, as the total armies of Parliament outnumbered the King’s. When crowned, King Charles IV refused to capitulate to any more Parliamentary demands. After a number of unilateral wars, decrees, and laws, carried out by the King, Lord Orwell banded most of the members of Parliament together and voted

to dissolve the Throne, and replace it with a republic.

1515 AF - The motion would finally receive a passing vote three years after Orwell began forming his group. During that time he also began building an army in case the King refused to abdicate. Instead of abdicating, the King marches his forces on the Parliament building in Wilder, destroying it and killing nearly half the Knights within. This action began the Axon Civil War which forced every citizen to choose a side. Much of the initial fighting took place in the streets of the major cities as both sides sized territory.

1521 AF - Despite allying with the Highland Canines, After six years of battle between the Royalists and Parliamentarians, Charles IV was defeated and executed. Lord Orwell became the first Lord Protector of Axony and established the Commonwealth of Axony. Eventually the Commonwealth would be expanded to include elected officials from counties across Axony in the voting process, but for several centuries the appointed Lord Protector would rule Axony in a similar fashion to a King, with a new leader elected after the death of the previous.

End of Colonialism1634 AF - When the Royal

Zabar Company discovered diamonds a few miles north of Delta Colony in Southern Zabar, Axon troops began being deployed to the area to expand their operations into Tribal areas, in the hopes of finding

new veins. While up to this point the indigenous people of Zabar had mostly ignored the colonists, they began pushing back against the invaders, supported by their Scyzantine neighbors.

1689 AF - The Bharatese were much more successful at ousting the colonialists, barring foreigners from the capital of Nehru, and placing tariffs on trade to the point of making any commerce with Bharat uneconomical.

1744 AF - After several centuries of harsh rule by the Dominion Trade Company, the southern Axon colonies revolted against the Commonwealth. Aquitar, the long standing rival of Axony, silently assisted the resistance fighters, supplying weapons and food for a long struggle.

1746 AF - After careful maneuvering by Aquitar and the newly founded Federated States of Vespuccia, Axon forces were cornered and forced to surrender the majority of the colonies. The mountainous northern regions remained in Dominion hands after the war.

Current Wars of the Realm

The Arctic War755 AF - Mostly a slow

territory grab, the Ursal Khanate and the Dominion of North Axony continue to fight over oil reserves in the Hudson Range, mountains that extend west from Hudson Factory, a port city in North Vespuccia, almost connecting back around

the globe to the Ursal Steppes. The War does have many small conflicts, fought between hunter-trapper settlers, and Steppesman, stalking each other across the wilderness.

The Axon-Bharat War1789 AF - Colonists of Axony

on mainland Bharat grew annoyed with the restrictions placed on them by the Bharatese, and had a number of small conflicts with them that eventually sparked a riot at the gates of Nehru. In retaliation, the South Sea Axony Holdings began sending ships to the continent, intended to reinforce their colonies and mete out justice.

The Axon-Zabar War1804 AF - When news spread

of a gold mine found at the base of Mount Mawenzi in the Zabar Jungles, the Royal Zabar Company saw a chance to bring new colonists to the area, and attain a larger territory for the Commonwealth. What was expected to be a quick march and insignificant conflict, turned into one of the bloodiest wars the Axons would face. Under guidance of a new Chieftan, the Ivory Tribes had unified most of Zabar in the last two decades. When the initial expeditionary force entered the Zabar Jungles, and never reported, Axony began sending larger forces to the country. The economic disaster that would occur if the diamond mines were lost was unthinkable, and the damage to Axony’s global power base even more horrific.

Born 1761, Arthur Setter was born the 8th son to the Earl of Tirnanog, on the western end of Axony. His parents raised him in preparation for a political career, and sent him to several schools across Axony. The area of Tirnanog was seen as a backwards colony to many ‘true Axons’, and the Tirnans were treated with little respect, regardless of rank. Arthur would spend most of his life proving himself against such slander.

After failing to succeed in half a dozen of the best schools, Arthur Setter sought a commission in the army, and through the help of family connections was placed into the 73rd Regimental Highlanders. With this group he fought in North Vespuccia against the Ursals. Much of his reliance on unorthodox tactics comes from fighting in the Dominion’s frosty wilderness. Finally proving himself, Arthur Setter quickly rose through the ranks and was transferred several times to different regiments, fighting in all three major theatres of war.

During one of his many returns to Tirnanog he would discover himself elected to the local borough’s Parliament position after openly mocking the current running MP. Now both a Member of Parliament and a Colonel, Arthur Setter would find himself a key figure on both the military and political stage. He would press during his time in Parliament

to adopt many of the new ideas working in the Federated States, and in the army the Colonel would adopt many of Emperor Moleon’s strategies.

After a successful defense of Agincourt Castle against the Aquitarans and proving himself against Emperor Moleon, he would be promoted again and given a Dukedom in the area of Harrington, just outside the capital of Wilder. For his actions and charisma, Parliament was even willing to appoint him next Lord Protector, but, as such duties would take him away from the field of battle, the Duke declined. The Duke of Harrington would always feel at home on the field of battle, pitting his wits against another tactician.
